How did Mussolini Become Worse in 1926?

Back in 1922, I think he was the good guy, I also think he didn't remain so. From 1937-1938 he is abandoning Austria to Hitler and starting to promote racism, which totally destroys the legitimacy Italy previously had had in Ethiopia.

But there is another marker. In the Matteotti case, Mussolini was accused of heading a Cheka. He answered, "no but Russia has one". Now, Matteotti case was 1924, it was arguably a case of one formerly decent trooper going a bit over the edge on the fact that fighting actually stopped in 1922, so he looks for new action and finds it when Matteotti criticises Il Duce. That guy was punished. But a new thing happened in 1926.

An Anarchist buy tried to shoot Il Duce. That was perhaps not the worst part of it. A crowd surrounding the event lynched the Anarchist boy. Now, to deal with this "not happening again", he did institute a secret police.

I mean, come on! Biden hasn't had 4 years in office and any boy - Anarchist or otherwise - trying to shoot him and getting lynched by a crowd. He has just had a crowd on Capitol, and a police officer shooting to kill, or at least shooting a shot that killed, into the crowd.

For those who care about dates and such, the Cheka had in fact started under Lenin ...
