Yes. The Holy Family were Refugees

Ah, but the ingenious conservative Christian is ready with his pettifogging and minor legalisms to declare nonetheless that Jesus was not a refugee. He achieves this effect by the ridiculous method of saying that since Judea and Egypt were both under Roman rule, it was therefore like moving from Maryland to Virginia for the Holy Family to flee Herod’s death squads.

Ariel Gonzalez Bovat
in his own words
Herod was an Arab practicing Jew, whose father was given honorary Roman citizenship in 47 B.C., citizenship that was passed on to Herod. That same year Herod arrived on the political stage when his father appointed him governor (modern day equivalent to mayor) of Galilee. Six years later Herod was promoted to tetrach, a higher form of governorship that ruled over a province, a territorial subdivision of the Roman Empire. A tetrach had the authority of a Roman magistrate and held executive power, though was still subordinate to Rome. Herod was technically a “client king” of Caesar.

It’s important to note that Egypt was not a different country from Bethlehem, but rather Egypt was part of a Roman province and Bethlehem was a town in Judea, another Roman province. ...

... Egypt is approximately 430 miles from Bethlehem. The reality can be compared to the holy family leaving New York City to settle right over the South Carolina border…..or leaving Chicago to settle in Omaha, Nebraska….or leaving Los Angeles and settling in Tucson Arizona. The mileage is not the issue here, but rather, leaving Bethlehem for Egypt was the equivalent of moving from one U.S. state to another, negating the label of refugee completely.

Yes, Herod was a client king .... so going from Judaea to Egypt was like going from NYC to SC?

Hmmm ... no.

Client King means, Judaea was a Roman Protectorate.

Suppose it was moving from Cuba (before Castro or just after he came to power), from Puerto Rico, from Guam or from Philippines to United States. The mileage is not the issue. The issue is, Holy Land esp. Judaea functioned as a protectorate, not as a province.

Recall the people getting from Cuba to US because they didn't like Castro's régime? Cuba had been a US protectorate since Spanish-American War. Were they not refugees?

Ask around in Miami, where many of them or their descendants still live.

After Herod and perhaps Archelaos too, Judaea became a Roman Province. With tax collectors.

This is one difficulty in the Childhood narratives, since in normal due procedure, Judaea could hardly have had a census prior to after Herod's death, when Judaea became a Roman Province:

A later appointment by Julius Caesar was Antipater the Idumaean, also known as Antipas, as the first Roman Procurator. Herod the Great, Antipater's son, was designated "King of the Jews" by the Roman Senate in 40 BCE[3] but he did not gain military control until 37 BCE. During his reign the last representatives of the Hasmoneans were eliminated, and the great port of Caesarea Maritima was built.[4]

...

In 6 CE Archelaus' tetrachy (Judea, plus Samaria and Idumea)[6] came under direct Roman administration. The Judean province did not initially include Galilee, Gaulanitis (the Golan), nor Peraea or the Decapolis.

Now, confer Galilee:

Galilee in the first century was dotted with small towns and villages.[6] The Jewish historian Josephus claims that there were 204 small towns in Galilee,[6] but modern scholars believe this estimate to be an exaggeration.[6] Many of these towns were centered around the Sea of Galilee, which contained many edible fish and which was surrounded by fertile land.[6] Salted, dried, and pickled fish were an important export good.[6] In 4 BCE, a rebel named Judah plundered Galilee's largest city, Sepphoris. In response, the Syrian governor Publius Quinctilius Varus sacked Sepphoris and sold the population into slavery.[6]

After the death of Herod the Great that same year, the Roman emperor Augustus appointed his son Herod Antipas as tetrarch of Galilee, which remained a Roman client state.[5] Antipas paid tribute to the Roman Empire in exchange for Roman protection.[5] The Romans did not station troops in Galilee, but threatened to retaliate against anyone who attacked it.[5] As long as he continued to pay tribute, Antipas was permitted to govern however he wished[5] and was permitted to mint his own coinage.[5] Antipas was relatively observant of Jewish laws and customs.[5] Although his palace was decorated with animal carvings, which many Jews regarded as a transgression against the law prohibiting idols,[5] his coins bore only agricultural designs, which his subjects deemed acceptable.[5]

This is where Nazareth was.

Now, this is not unimportant. You see, Rome levied tribute in Galilee, and this could have been prepared back in the time of Herod. Meaning, a kind of inofficial census could have taken place.

And as some have claimed Nazareth did not exist, it could have been in administration a subdivision of Sepphoris, explaining why Josephus gave no separate mention to Nazareth.

In an obnoxious and ghoulish display of gross insensitivity Jason Chaffetz, while speaking about Jakelin Caal Maquin, a 7 year old girl who died in the custody of US Border Patrol agents, told his Fox News audience that the tragic death of the young girl sent the right “message.”

It should send the message that taking away people from their parents is grossly evil - including obviously when they are refugees, even illegal ones, but also including when they are not.

Will Trump do the right thing and end the state custody for illegal immigrants AND for a lot of lawabiding US Citizens? Honour THY father and THY mother and forget about the evil "parens patriae" doctrine!

  • a) une couche de fossiles de créatures de la faune ou de la flore maastrichtienne;

Ceci veut dire qu'on refait ... 100 - 97,61 = 2,39 pcm.

Débutons avec 25 pcm, prenons 200 ans.

25 pcm * 97,61 % = 24,4025 pcm.

2,866 * 97,61 = 2,8 pcm.

11,22 - 2,8 = 8,422 pcm.

Does one Need to Know Who is Antichrist, in Order not to Fall?

I think this may depend on how clear the Antichrist is of his Antichristian intentions at a given point.

John Fisher believed he owed Henry VIII loyalty - and Henry VIII acted like an Antichrist.

Here is a historical novelist and at least amateur historian of such times who did a little research on St. John Fisher, the famous colleague in martyrdom to St. Thomas More:

Green Book and Medieval Conditions

Citing the Green book of Muammar al-Qaddafi (p. 59):

EXAMPLES OF WAGE-LABOUR: FOR THE SOCIETY, FOR PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, AND SELF-EMPLOYMENT:

  • First example:
    • (a) A worker produces ten apples for society. The society gives him one apple for his production and it fully satisfies his needs.
    • (b) A worker produces ten apples for society. The society gives him one apple for his production which does not satisfy his needs.

  • Second example:
    • A worker produces ten apples for another person and gets wages less than the price of one apple.

  • Third example:
    • A worker produces ten apples for himself.

  • The conclusion:
    • In the first example (a), because the worker’s wages are limited to one unit which satisfies his needs, he has no incentive to increase his production. Thus, all the labour force that works for society is psychologically apathetic.
    • (b) The worker has no incentive even to produce because he cannot satisfy his needs from the wages. However, he continues working without any incentives because generally, like all members, he is forced to acquiesce to the working conditions of the society.

    • In the second example, the worker works basically to get wages and not to produce. Since his wages cannot satisfy his needs, the choices are either to look for another master to get a better price for his work, or be forced, as a matter of survival, to remain where he is.

    • In the third example, the self-employed alone is the one who produces eagerly and voluntarily.

If a Medieval peasant produced ten apples, how many did he keep? I'd say, nine.

OK, perhaps not always apples - but ten sheaves of wheat, he arguably kept eight to nine.

Why?

Because peasants were 9 tenths of society, and because expert was low.

This means, he arguably kept most of what he produced.

Producing for others is limited to:

  • needs of others in society
  • needs of exporters

Now, as to export, arguably the price of sales abroad went to a high extent to his lord.

As to needs of others (non-peasants, not even related as family), this included the lord, and this went through the lord, he arguably kept rather much of this part, if not as needing it himself, at least as selling it for others.

It seems I recall - but you had better verify with Régine Pernoud - that the peasant even if he was a serf, kept all he produced on one piece of land, the glebe, while the lord kept all his serfs produced on the demesne. This means, if the peasant had a surplus, he could at least sell it locally and thereby improve his conditions as to assets he was not growing on his glebe.

Yes, I think this means, conditions were rather benign for the Medieval peasant.

Today, farmers have lots more machinery, but, they are much more of a minority in each country and also much less selfsupporting in diversity of needs, and therefore much more individually dependent on markets. This means, today the example of a farmer producing ten apples and keeping one is in fact realistic.

This also means, they need much more fuel to transport what they produce and to buy what they don't produce.

L'anglais alors?
A wondrous large white gem, the royal jewel of the Dwarf-kingdom of Erebor (the Lonely Mountain). It was sought by Thorin Oakenshield, the claimant to the kingdom, in The Hobbit.

The Arkenstone had been discovered at the heart of the Mountain by Thorin's ancestor, King Thráin I the Old, and shaped by the Dwarves. Thráin ruled from T.A. 1981 to 2190, and the Arkenstone became the royal heirloom of his successors, Durin's line. However the great jewel was lost when the dragon Smaug captured the Lonely Mountain from the Dwarves in T.A. 2770.

The Arkenstone shone of its own inner light, but having been cut and fashioned by the Dwarves, it also reflected and multiplied any light glancing upon its surface with marvellous beauty. It was also called the Heart of the Mountain, and as Thorin describes to Bilbo Baggins: "It shone like silver in the firelight, like water in the sun, like snow under the stars, like rain upon the moon ..."

Thorin, the heir of Thráin, arrived at the Lonely Mountain with Bilbo in T.A. 2941. When Bilbo found the Arkenstone on Smaug's golden bed deep inside the Lonely Mountain he pocketed it, having learned how much Thorin valued it. While his Dwarf companions sorted the treasure, Thorin sought only the Arkenstone, unaware that Bilbo was hiding it in his pillow. When the Dwarves refused to share any of the treasure with Bard (who had killed Smaug) and King Thranduil, Bilbo crept out of the Dwarves' fort inside the Mountain, and gave them the Arkenstone; Bard, Thranduil, and Gandalf then tried to trade it for Bilbo's fourteenth share of Smaug's hoard. The dispute was interrupted by goblins and wargs from the Misty Mountains, the Battle of Five Armies ensued, and Thorin was killed. When Thorin was buried deep under Erebor, Bard placed the Arkenstone on Thorin's breast.

Kudrowophobe? Phoebephobes? You should have a talk about the term ...

Stan Lee probably neither Free Mason nor Satanist · Kudrowophobe? Phoebephobes? You should have a talk about the term ...

Lisa Kudrow ... I came across a man who could be described as typically phobiac of you or of Winona Ryder. Would you take a talk with Jennifer Aniston on what to call such a man?

No, I didn't talk to him personally. It's just a video on the internet, so I don't even know if it's a man or a woman. Anyway, I am annoyed that such a thing as Lisa-Kudrow-as-Phoebe-phobia should ... btw, I'm waiting for your and Jennifer's verdict on terminology, that's the kind of thing you were discussing on Friends ... infect a man who presumably was trying to do a good turn in fighting against the bad influence of Soros or sth.

I am not against people taking offense at George Soros, I do myself. I am not against taking offense at Hollywood directors dissing Christianity, promoting Aztek idol worship as at least partially a solution ...

Jack frees Will and duels Barbossa, while Elizabeth and Will fight off Barbossa's crew. Barbossa stabs Jack, but the latter is revealed to be under the curse, having taken a piece of gold from the chest of Cortés. Jack then shoots Barbossa, and Will drops both coins into the chest, with his and Jack's blood on them. The curse is lifted, causing Barbossa to die from Jack's gunshot; the rest of Barbossa's crew, realizing that they are no longer immortal, surrender and are arrested.

... as I said, promoting Aztek idol worship as at least part of a solution and lambasting Jerry Bruckheimer (who's German Jewish) for Curse of the Black Pearl.

But someone who was trying to prove Mel Gibson's point for him, somehow missed Jerry Bruckheimer and of all people focussed on naming as many as possible, including you, Lisa Kudrow!

Friends is set in New York. It has six main characters including the bar tender, only two of them are played by Jewish actors and that is about as exotic as using two Italian actors born in France for something set in Marseille!

You are one of them. Now, I might be a kind of Antisemite (a bit like Brother Nathanael, if you know who I mean, but I am not a monk). But I am not a Phoebephobe. If I want to have respect for Christianity, I don't complain about your playing Phoebe, I sign a protest against the Comedian Canteloup who made a gross joke about the Holy Family. I don't care if he's Jewish or not Jewish : the point is he's disrespected Christianity. And probably some Jew had a bit too much of a chuckle at that. And probably (unless you are very unlike your screen character) that Jew is not you. So, why would anyone have any kind of trouble with you having played Phoebe?

I mean, is the guy trying to make Antisemites look bad? Or something? Just when one was kind of coming over the memories of a certain man who should have remained a painter (don't you agree, he was a marvellous painter, nearly better than Chagall?) in comes Mr. ... well, you discuss with Jennifer what to call such a guy ... and makes Antisemites look bad again! Do you think it's a Jewish shill actually trying to?

PS, arguably Verbinski who has collaborated with Bad Religion four times over could be as responsible as Bruckheimer. And Verbinski doesn't seem to be Jewish ... I mean for Black Pearl, responsible for Black Pearl. I need a coffee./HGL

PPS, for other readers, no, the other Jewish actor in Friends is not Jennifer Aniston, she's Greek and god-daughter of Telly Savalas (Aristotelis Savalas). The other Jewish actor is David Schwimmer, who played Dr. Ross Geller./HGL

"La science c'est quoi?"

Comment traduire moyboy en français? · Ah, merci beaucoup, fsspx.news!

  • soit ceci est une question importante, et les sciences ont répondu que non, cette distinction n'existe pas;

Has Anyone Stamped Me as Islamophobic?

Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere : Just Promoting This One · New blog on the kid : Against Morocco Agreement on Migration · Has Anyone Stamped Me as Islamophobic?

Some Muslims have these kinds of definitions of Islamophobia:

She explains why they believ the West is evil, because it is based entirely on Christianity which is against Islam.

She says they believe in Shari'a and the whole idea of Christmas is blasphemy and Islamophobia and Muslims must not accept it.

Quoted from this blog post:

Well, perhaps they are stamping me as Islamophobic because I am against what this woman is saying (according to those who have presumably heard her). Or perhaps, because I think by now that Muslims living beside either my last home in Sweden (it was in Rosengård) or my homelessness in several cities in both Berlin and France, have contributed to impoverishing me, by considering me as "islamophobic" and my blogs as "hate speech".

But considering I am talking more of Christianity than of Islam, arguably, it's the former.

Against Morocco Agreement on Migration

Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere : Just Promoting This One · New blog on the kid : Against Morocco Agreement on Migration · Has Anyone Stamped Me as Islamophobic?

I had a right to leave Sweden. I would consider it a violation of my rights to be forced back to Sweden.

However, I do not have a right to stay in France longer than France allows me to. I came in during Schengen, which is still an ongoing agreement, but if some in France insist, it may be I don't have a right according to Schengen agreement to stay.

Now, some would want to consider migration, not just emigration from one's own or another country, but immigration to a specific country of one's choice, as a human right. It is not.

It is not a crime to immigrate to a specific country - unless that country makes it a crime, but it is also not a right which no country can take from one.

IF you pretend that immigrating to France is a human right, well, then, suppose 1 million chose to exercise it next month, then 1 million new French are upcoming next month. Whether they know French or not, whether they respect France or not. Or, suppose a country like France can make a delay, tell the one million immigrants to France "wait, we have taken our quota" - then the concept of human right is voided, because it is reduced to something which can be overridden by considerations of administrational expedience.

Don't sign that damn agreement on December 18th, any country!

We do not want nations to lose freedom to immigration, and we do not want the word "human right" to be an extra and optional decoration on normal administration.

Update, 8.XII, I have now looked up the document online, except I can't open it on the computers of Nanterre University Library.

Meanwhile, part of my suspicions is that document could also make irregular migration harder, while it is sometimes necessary./HGL

Mark Coleridge on Viganò, me on Coleridge

Mark Coleridge on Viganò
“The latest Vigano broadside (un’altra Viganata!) leaves me wondering if the Archbishop thinks that he rather than @Pontifex should be Pope. #papabile.”

me on Coleridge
From Xanadu the great command ... oh, I'm probably misciting the "cardinal's" relative. Either way, a name like Coleridge obliges to some kind of verbal originality.

However, if you do need to reuse the trite so trite it can't be plagiarised, how about at least not taking it from what's trite in Protestants?

In Martin Luther's day, no one was as far as I know saying "is Martin thinking he should be Pope" even back after 95 theses when he was more of a Jansenist than a Protestant proper. By contrast, among Anglicans and other Protestants, asking if a lay person thinks he's a parson or of a parson whether he thinks he's the Archbishop of Canterbury ... I don't know any examples here either, but such an approach makes more sense in a Protestant context.

Some versions of Protestantism, not totally excluded from even Anglicanism, will not accept "do as he says, not as he does" with a reference to Pharisees on the chair of Moses. Lollards, you know ... so, since that answer is out, if you criticise a parson as being a jerk, yourself not being a parson, you would risk a more indirect and backhanded approach, like "do you think you should be the parson?" implying you may be prideful. And if the discord is on doctrine rather than someone's personal behaviour, that is handy too, since an Anglican let alone other Protestant pastor cannot really answer "this is defined dogma" or "this is the opinion of St. so and so" (Aquinas or Augustine being two favourites here in the Latin West).

So, I'll guess (a vague memory in the back of my head wonders if I haven't heard sth like that when I was a Lutheran or before that Evangelical, but as that was back in my teens or pre-teens, the memory if such is very vague), the type of remark has been picked up from ... Anglican? ... Non-Catholic ... Sources.

In all earnest, if someone says so and so is no good as a Pope, it is perhaps because he is concerned so and so is not very good as a Pope. Like I have not considered him as Pope since canonisations of Wojtyla and Roncalli (and I never positively considered him Pope, as I had done with Ratzinger). Such a remark is, for someone knowing it is about doctrine and supporting papacy of that man, too serious a thing to be dealt with by "does he think he should be pope" types of remarks. I don't recall even Catholics supporting Wojtyla in 1988 remarking "does Lefebvre think he should be Pope?"

Are you bent on making Bergoglio not just a snowflake but a pampered one with many supporters? Now, snowflakes are of course sometimes good people who sometimes make their eternal salvation, but I am not over confident they make super good Popes. And if they want to be the other type of papa, it's good if their wife can take them down a peg ...

Over and out from this snowflake .../HGL

Dear Japan, Don't Sterilise Transgenders

Simply don't allow them to change gender.

They may change their mind and return to saner ideas, and then it would be tragic for them to have either changed gender or be sterilised.

Same as gay marriage should not be allowed, if a homosexual recovers, he should not be required to go through a divorce procedure in order to marry a woman, or she to marry a man./HGL

Commençons la revue de "100 infos insolites ..."

Comment traduire moyboy en français? · Ah, merci beaucoup, fsspx.news!

Bonum Festum Sanct Andreae Apostoli

Christifidelibus lectoribus exopto./HGL

Belated Congratulations to Princess Alexandra!

The news:

The 19-year-old princess is the daughter of Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Caroline of Monaco. The Princess has recently become a member of the Catholic Church and this the reason why she has been removed from the British line of succession. However, she remains the 12th in the line of succession to the Monegasque throne. ... Princess Caroline, her mother, has always been a Catholic. Now, the Princess has decided to leave her Lutheran faith and become a Catholic, as her mother is.

As said, congratulations!

You might want to think about whether "Pope Francis" is really Pope, but on taking the right decision between Luther and the Church he was born to, congratulations!/HGL
