By having your hive of bees and putting the honey in the pots in Spain?

If a Spaniard were to ask you how to find milk buyers in Bombay, what would you answer? That is right, in Bombay you don’t buy milk from the other end of the world, you buy milk which each morning is milked from cows around Bombay.

Spain and France have lots of small apiculturists, so selling them honey from far off is like selling milk to Bombay, say from Asturias in Spain.

[The answer request seemed to be from an Indian, but I can't see it any more. Er, sorry, Pankaj Singh was following the question, he hadn't actually requested an answer from me.]

Perhaps you had faith in the wrong things.

Have you tried having faith in God?

Q
When you think about a word in a foreign language you speak, do you think about the image of the concept or its translation to your native language?

For example, if you know French and you think about “maison”, does your brain show you an image of a house or does it show you the text “house”?

Do all words for the same concept in different languages point to the same image in your mind?

ARq

Hans-Georg Lundahl
I speak two langs, Latin and Germanic. In a few dialects.
"Written 8m ago"
My brain would either show me the image of a house or the text “maison”.

As long as one has one’s brain showing the text “hus” (Swedish) or “Haus” (German), one is not thinking in the foreign language and one is not a fluent speaker.

What are the relationships between Norse gods and Slavic gods? Is it essentially the same with small differences, like the names?

Oh, no.

At least, if Thor could have some relation to Slavic Perun, Finnish Perkele and Lithuanian Perkunas, we don’t know much on similarities beyond that.

Dievas seems totally different from Odin, in Lithuanian mythology, more like the Christian God, a bit like Ilmarinen in Finnish mythology, Sun and Moon just may have been not worshipped in Lithuanian like in Norse myth, but that is a negative similarity.

Loki is not much of a devil compared to Finnish Perkele (Thor+devil in one) or Lithuanian Velnias (Hades+devil).

In Lithuanian, Dievas and Velnias are still names for God and devil. You don’t do that kind of thing with the Aesir. In Finnish, it is Jumala and Perkele for God and devil.

Thor and Perun is about as far as you get. If you get that far, you can add Gaulish Taranis and Ancient Near East Baal Hadad onto the list as well.

You don’t get any Slavic or Lithuanian gods I know of who founded any dynasties, like Odin and his stepson Frey founded the Ynglings.

That is why I think Aesir were real people, while false gods. The Slavic false gods were just false gods. The Aesir, or as many as appeared in Sweden, were impersonators of gods. Like Hercules, Romulus and a few more had been earlier on. Or perhaps people were just mistaken about them.

I don’t know how readable and memorisable the act is, but if it is at least moderately so, at least to you, you might do well to write down first letters of every word, then lay the text aside, then check how much you remember with just the first letters before you, then look back and so on, till you know the piece.

Q
During the French Revolution, many bishops, priests, seminarians, and nuns were killed, so why were so few canonized by the Catholic Church as saints?

Two responses are possible:

  • Those that were either canonised or beatified were so collectively, if killed same day and place as each other. A certain saint may be one in a list of hundreds which is celebrated as a total one a single day;
  • as with martyrs of the Cristiada or of Spain during the II Republic (including both the Red terror 1934 and the Civil War, the red zones), canonising certain martyrs officially can be seen as criticism of certain people as persecutors. This mean people who merit canonisation could be not canonised due to omissions due to political considerations. It took centuries before St Joan of Arc got canonised.

As far as I know, that is not necessarily the case.

That said, I don’t do it myself.

Partly because as a teen I was a non-Catholic Christian with less understanding of that, partly because I think it can open up to demonic influences, in this life, even if not directly damn you, and partly because that is not the music I like.

C on A
When I say “not necessarily”, I think it depends on the texts.

It seems “Eagles of Death Metal” did sing texts which if taken enthusiastically will be mortal sins.

Q
Christians are pressuring me to become a Christian, how do I stop this?

C on Q
I'm a Hindu, but I'm not religious. I have a few Christian friends who are pressuring me to become a Christian. One of them even bought me a Bible and I accepted it, but donated it to Goodwill the next day. I've told them I won't change my religion (indirectly), but they don't understand.

Two ways of stopping it:

  • become a Christian
  • change friends.

Seriously, I think they have a point, but if you think they are bothersome, there are, as said, two ways out of that bothersome situation.

Ask a technician, but first check if you have plugged the electricity, inserted sufficient toner and paper.

I am NOT a technician, I print from a printing office in a library, and when one printer is bad, I try to get another one.

C on Q
Human life on earth is supposedly many thousands of years old, many population estimates for this amount of time put human population at astronomical figures - why are there only 7 billion people on the earth? This figure indicates that mankind appeared 4,500 - 6,000 years ago.

Q
Is it to help and guide man the supreme end of all sciences and religions?

The supreme end of religion is to give God the glory which is His due.

In doing so, man also saves himself, and in order to do so, man usually needs guidance.

So, guidance is not supreme end of religion, but only, say, third down.

Science should help man both to know the truth (which today it often does not, due to Heliocentrism, Evolutionism and even worse superstitions) and to act morally with more efficiency than if lacking it.

However, the degree of efficiency required is more a matter of morals than of whatever science can provide. Imagine science could give one man the capacity to run all the farms of US single handed, it would be immoral to concentrate farm property that much.
