what is a benefit of schooling for someone who does not want it? I prefer to learn on my own! Solo guys are smarter!

I am Swedish, and while I wasn't bullied, I just couldn't make any friends at all. I never understood why that was. Nevertheless, it was depressing to be alone day in and day out.

@hglundahl that’s not true. Home schooled kids get bullied all the time speaking as one. At church, in college, at the workplace, in sports, and any extracurriculars. It just means you likely don’t have the experience to understand how to respond. I used to go to a huge public school and I would rather that because bullying happens in real life. Making sure your kids don’t meet potentially mean people isn’t a good solution because when they move out they will face jerks and they need to know how to respond. That won’t happen if you never face that kid of adversity. No matter how much you tell someone it’s not the same as experience.

@AmaniSimekha "At church, in college, at the workplace, in sports, and any extracurriculars."

That's a problem in the culture. You can't fix that by pretending homeschooling is inadequate. If the culture is sufficiently bad, anything is inadequate.

"It just means you likely don’t have the experience to understand how to respond."

Could be exactly what saves you from becoming a permanent bully victim.

"they need to know how to respond."

Thousand times better ways than to keep them at the mercy of actual bullies in vulnerable years.

"That won’t happen if you never face that kid of adversity."

There are entire lives lived without that kind of adversity and if it's less often now, that's perhaps because public schools involving teens who have no desire for learning but a desire to show off (bec. school compulsion) can't be expelled and bully victims cannot withdraw, so everyone gets used to bullying at an early stage in life.
