Sweden has Lynx, But Also Sheep


Two ewes were killed by lynx recently. For those reading Swedish, here is the news:

  • Northern District of Administration:

    • Norrbotten County. Decision comes in February.
    • Västerbotten County. Decision comes in February.
    • Jämtland County. Decision comes in February.
    • Västernorrland County. Decision comes in February.


  • Middle District of Administration.

    • Gävleborg County. County administration allows no lynx hunt.
    • Dalecarlia County. County administration allows no lynx hunt.
    • Uppsala County. County administration allows no lynx hunt.
    • County of Stockholm. Three lynx may be killed.
    • Värmland County. Nine lynx may be killed within two hunting areas.
    • Örebro County. Three lynx may be killed.
    • Västmanland County. Two lynx may be killed.
    • Södermanland County. County administration allows no lynx hunt.
    • Westrogothia County. Seven lynx may be killed within three hunting areas.


  • Southern District of Administration.

    • Kalmar County. Three lynx may be killed.
    • Jönköpings County. Two lynx may be killed.
    • In other counties, no lynx hunt is allowed.


The articles are from Svensk Jakt - a hunters' mag. I don't think that means they should be doubted.

God created the lynx with excellent eyesight and after the fall of Adam it sometimes preys on animals that men keep for our upkeep, like sheep, giving us wool, sheep cheese, sheep yoghurt. This means, we are not on Edenic terms with the lynx. Housekeeping if a somewhat bloody sort is sometimes needed. It is not murder.
