"You Can Not Be Racist Against White People, Because White People Are the Dominant Race In This Country"
Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere: Trump Signed, God Bless Him · New blog on the kid: "You Can Not Be Racist Against White People, Because White People Are the Dominant Race In This Country" · I heard from Robert Ritchie, America Needs Fatima
Are they the dominant ethnicity (or race if you really insist) in every nook, cranny and corner of that country over the pond?
Are white people the dominant ethnicity in the Bronx? Are they the dominant ethnicity among the pupils of every school in the Bronx? In every class in every school in the Bronx? In every group of friends and pals in every class in every school in the Bronx?
I would say, if a group of black pupils, even if fewer than 50 % of the class, take advantage of a lonely moment to pick on a lonely white pupil, that could easily be an act of racism. Perhaps retaliatory racism. Perhaps a racism that makes a lot sense to them, perhaps one or two or three of them had great-grandparents victims of Walter Ashby Plecker. But the white pupil they are picking on is not Walter Ashby Plecker. Even if he descended in straight patrilinear genealogy from him, or for that matter from Lenin, Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot or Mao Tse Tung, picking on him for the sake of what Walter Plecker did is as racist as picking on a Chinese ethnic for the ill-deeds of Mao.
Now, it is true that opposition to illegal migrants is sometimes racist. It could also be classist. "The position of illegal migrant is a situation that takes a toll on someone's mental stability, having many of them ..." ... I'm not a huge fan of the idea of getting every illegal immigrant out of the US, but going for violent offenders makes sense. Going for peaceful people because theoretically they could become violent makes less sense.
The support or otherwise of Trump's policy with migrants should be based and I would say at each step, on its fairness or unfairness. Going for violent offenders makes sense. Letting some farmers hire illegally residing people as long as they are cheap and then calling for the ICE as soon as the workers would acquire rights of the syndical type or laying them off at that point and then calling the ICE, that makes a lot of less sense. I'm not saying those cases are 99 % of the illegal immigrants, but I'm not saying they aren't a good half of them either. We'll find out.
Borders have done some bad, but they have also done some good. When St. Joseph walked over the border to Judaea, which was at this point a protectorate, not yet a province, so it was a border, he probably did some successful tax evasion. When he walked over another border into Egypt, back into the direct Roman Empire, he evaded a massacre rather than just Roman tax collectors. That may explain why his Stepson, who is God, had some, shall we say, gentle touch when it came to tax collectors. The point is, once St. Joseph had taken the Holy Family across that border, Herod's soldiers couldn't follow. Btw, since he had previously resided perfectly legally in Galilee, which already was a Roman province, one cannot say he was an illegal immigrant. On the other hand, I highly doubt migrating legally took months of paperwork.
It is also obvious that there are situations where that paperwork cannot really be done from one's country of origin. St. Joseph didn't have time to send an application to Augustus' administration in Rome for a Green Card, on the Flight to Egypt. So, I'm thankful that wasn't a requirement.
Summing up: racism against white people exists, even in white countries, because the country as a whole is not the only unit where power dynamics play out. Border policies have seen hysteria from both sides of the question.
