It can be added, Judaism started compulsory school (for boys) and that outside home, after rejecting Jesus.

Catholic Christianity never made it the norm.

Some would say "no, it was already there in Jesus' time" and I'd answer, no, the structures were being implemented, but there was not yet any compulsion:

And the Jews* wondered, saying: How doth this man know letters, having never learned?

It may mean "know letters" is used of more than alphabetisation, so, it doesn't absolutely prove He was homeschooled from start, but it could mean "know letters" is used as we would, and part of why people were astonished in the Temple when He was twelve and again this feast of Tabernacles when He was thirty or more, was they knew He hadn't been to school. At all. I think this is, apart from more theological reasons, one more reason to be Catholic rather than Jewish./HGL

* By the time John wrote his Gospel, the ones rejecting Jesus had monopolised the word "Jews", and John uses the word so retroactively. But not in Jesus' own mouth, except perhaps before Pilate, when those rejecting Him and the then and there "people" were coinciding.
