What do US Americans Know about East Slavs?

LaRouche supporters have given this report:

Last week, LaRouchePAC Michigan organizer Chuck Park drove to Ohio to intersect the People’s Convoy, which traveled from California to Washington, DC. He reported, “Most of the people were skeptical about the Ukraine war, with one saying Putin was defending his sovereignty. Everyone blamed Biden, not Putin, for the gas price increases and the take down of our energy independence. They also were open to the idea that it was being used to promote the resurgence of the Republican war faction to take back control of the Republican Party from Trump.” These truckers see themselves as a vanguard, not merely protesting mandates, but defending all of the freedoms which are being threatened by the elites. They were eager to discuss LaRouchePAC’s campaign to bankrupt the Federal Reserve and deliver a death blow to the financier control of our economy.

Let's take out one big thing, one man - quoting extract - [said] "Putin was defending his sovereignty" .... did he mean sovereignty over Ukraine?

Putin has been elected by a Russia which is only one of the successor states of the Soviet Union. He has never been elected President of the Ukraine.

Does his sovereignty over Russia involve the right to make war in Ukraine?

The problem that could be any kind of issue legitimising that would be rights of ethnic Russians in Ukraine. But the fact that neo-Nazis exist does not in and of itself threaten those rights, neither does the army of Ukraine.

We do not want a world in which every government can go down because a sufficient big neighbour says with a threatening voice "you are tolerating neo-Nazis!"

If NATO accepts Ukraine's membership, one would have to ask carefully how the rights of Russians in Ukraine are respected, but if they are, it's Zelensky who is defending his sovereignty, not Putin which is defending his. To a certain point, the rights of Russians in Ukraine is even a question of Ukrainean sovereignty, barring obviously things like massacres or prison camps. Sweden doesn't pester the US over whether Swedes in Wisconsin must learn to speak English. Sweden doesn't need to pester Finland over getting access to local administration in Swedish. But Finland doesn't even (as far as I know) threaten war with Sweden over Finns in Sweden having less rights to own language in school and administration than Swedes in Finland.
