The truth about the Galileo affair

It wasn’t until Isaac Newton (1643–1727) that the matter could be settled. Newton’s law of gravity and his three laws of motion made clear that the planets (including the earth) had to orbit the solar system’s centre of mass. Because the sun is so massive the centre of mass can be treated as being at the sun’s centre. Kepler’s model, then, was proven to be the correct one—there was neither need for nor a physical mechanism to produce epicycles.

The need to produce epicycles is, that's what we observe, unless they are impossible.

The physical mechanism for epicycles is, angels move planets. That being the physical mechanism for fix stars moving in "annual aberration" and "annual parallax" as well, we have no need to put the stars very far out, and have no Distant Starlight Problem. Meanwhile, the physical mechanism for the daily motion of the visible universe around earth is God.

Biblical proof text for Geocentrism?

But Jesus answered them: My Father worketh until now; and I work.
[John 5:17]

The context being working on the Sabbath. From Friday sunset to Saturday sunset God is moving the universe, with the Sun, around Earth. If God Himself took a day off, it would never come to an end (OK, he did take a day off in Joshua's time, but it wasn't to take a rest, it was to give Joshua's men light to fight).

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice Because that which is known of God is manifest in them. For God hath manifested it unto them For the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable
[Romans 1:18-20]

Again, God's turning the universe around us, not taking any day off./HGL
