They were so, in a way that matches in part what Nazi Germany did before the war.

My dad is born among Lapps, or Sami. No, we aren't Sami ourselves.

But this policy is a horror to me, in a way Fascism* can never be.

It might have been the way the Soviet Union had gone, if Lenin hadn't kept preparing and then died early, and if Stalin and Lysenko hadn't found it bourgeois. Lysenko wasn't a great genetician, but he had better morals than Lenin.

In Germany, at least West Germany, this kind of thing ended in 1945 (thank you, Mr. Patton) and dito for Austria, which Germany had occupied. In Sweden, they ended after I was born.

As for the burning of drums, execution of Sami drummers, only after the Deformation did people come to see the Sami as automatically obliged to be Christians because living in Sweden-Finland or in Norway. Back in the 1400's, Sweden began to tax Lapps** but as they were an unbaptised population, those remaining Pagan couldn't be brought to justice under the Catholic system. In fact, the Teutonic order had a policy prefiguring Protestantism. So, in the late 1300's, Samogitia was attacked about 100 times by Teutonic Knights, in 1410 the as yet Pagan Samogitians helped Poland and Lithuania defeat the Teutonic Order, three years later, 1413, they became Christians. But Brandenburg-Prussia was pursuing a policy of forced Christianisation, continuing that of the Teutonic Order, and were pushing for deletion of the old Paganism by education and making the Lutheran catechism a prerequisite for adulthood, later with equal rights for a Calvinist or Catholic one.

I obviously prefer the Catholic system, as it was outside the Teutonic Order. Just as I prefer Franco over Hitler or Per Albin Hansson.

And here's the irony. The people 11:57 measuring their skulls, the people 11:59 burning their drums, the people 12:00 sterilizing their women. Those people 12:03 arrived in Scandinavia after the Sami. 12:05 The Germanic migrations bringing the 12:07 ancestors of modern Swedes and 12:08 Norwegians came later.

The fact of the matter is, Scandinavians are as indigenous to South Scandinavia as Lapps to North Scandinavia and Finland. Both Northern peoples among Scandinavians and ethnic Lapps have more Hunter Gatherer heritage than Scandinavians have in the South. The video mentions Lapps have a high percentage of Siberian Y Chromosomes, but not that another Y Chromosome lineage is R1b, I think even more of it than in South Scandinavia.

Germanic started to be what it is, probably with Grimm's law, certainly with Verner's law, in an area stretching South Scandinavia, Denmark, North Germany. And the Germanic migrations began from there, this is not a goal of them. In parallel, though, Swedes were spreading North. Helsings are a tribe of Swedes going into Lappland even in the Viking age, much like trappers among the Red Indians. Sometimes trading with them, sometimes fighting them. So, while Lapps were pushed back to the North, it was not all the way from the South.

The Siberian DNA coming to the North of Scandinavia predates the Germanic migrations, but as the Germanic migrations are from South Scandinavia, among other places and the Nordic Race lived in South Scandinavia since at least as early as the Sami came to North Scandinavia. A mixture mainly of Hunter-Gatherers of the North (a mixture of Western and Eastern Hunter-Gatherers) and of people coming from the Steppes. To become part, not just of Scandinavian, but also Sami ancestry.

PS, it can be mentioned that the Bettelanhaltelager in Schlögen was closed at the Anschluss, and this razzoo against beggars (as such, not Gipsies as such) never existed outside Upper Austria. The camp Lackenbach was erected after the Anschluss by the Nazis, concerned Gipsies on ethnic grounds, and was applicable for prisoners from all of Austria. I'm eager not to have Austro-Fascism any more than Franco confused with National Socialism./HGL

PPS, in case anyone wonders, I'm obviously against Schlögen too. I'm defending Austro-Fascism despite it, and not just it was limited to Upper Austria, but also, it didn't start until after Dollfuss was already dead. I've said it was the one huge mistake by Austro-Fascism./HGL

* Fascism as distinct from National Socialism. I refuse the Commie idea of calling German National Socialism the nec plus ultra of Fascism. ** While in Swedish, "lapp" can also mean "patch", Finnish calls them "Lappi" while "patch" seems to be "tilkku." In my family, we have never meant any disrespect to them while calling them "Lappar" and we have also not bocotted the word "Samer" ... but for the 1400's, no Swedish authority would have called them Samer.
