Counsel of Trent Depends on Patreon and Exclusivity

From his youtube channel, I found his patreon, when looking for his email.

On his patreon, I found:

Become a patron to
Unlock 690 exclusive posts
Get exclusive merch
Listen anywhere
Connect via private message

Most of this is unobjectionable. Two of them are pretty much not so. Here is why for each:

Unlock 690 exclusive posts
Perhaps not as objectionable as supposed.

Those which are accessible via his youtube channel may be counted within the 690, and this means the really exclusive ones are only 24, and those could be things like "updates for patrons" and "I'm sparring at a conference" - not the ones with titles of interest to people other than those previously interested in Trent Horn - not quite true either, one of them is a post on cyberpunk, steampunk and one more thing.

I can definitely relate to authors earning money. I am less happy with them doing so by making material on the web exclusive. A book, as a material object, of paper, string, glue and colours (mainly printing ink) can only be read and pages turned by one man at a time (or perhaps two, if the reader can't move his fingers), and so it is exclusive by nature.

A file on the internet is by its nature apt to be shared indefinitely. It is a great way of sharing information, which unlike books is not apt to have exclusive userships or other ownerships than origination and control over form on the part of the author.

But if you really want, there is kindle. It helps to keep the internet paid for. So does exclusive pornography.

I'm even less of a fan of things neither kindle nor porn being "sold" by being put behind a paywall. Because, things that are of useful knowledge value are good things to be able to reference, for instance on the internet.

Wikipedia is not ruined, and even so, it has not made articles "patron exclusive."

This is by the way the reason why I insist and reinsist, that I'd like paper editors for my work - the kind of editors who put my texts on paper that's sold in some kind of book stores. I want the internet version to remain free.

I was actually looking for this - without being a patron.

Why? I wanted to ask Trent Horn the pertinent question whether my comment* beginning

2:04 As for first verse proving preterism, see the Challoner comment:

was deleted by him or by someone who was admin in the cyber.

If it was by him, he is silencing people who oppose the (at least apparent from first words) preterism of Jimmy Akin, which is not the major traditional position of the Catholic Church, even if it is highly favoured now by the Vatican II Sect.

If it was an admin, he was either going past his legal responsibilities or obeying and indecent order from corrupt police.

I'd have loved to pose that question to him as well as - for other comments on other topics under other videos, at least two - Allie Beth Stuckey.

I don't think Mr. Horn would much enjoy being socially locked up in a situation where he's not able to post what he likes (within limits of legality and decency, bien-sûr!) because either an admin** or a bunch of other youtubers writing on his topics but not entirely on his side is doing what they can to stop him from debating. He's not the likeliest person to suffer that, since he did martial arts, since he has an apartment, unless it's a house (I highly doubt camping caravan as third alternative), but solidarity is not quite obsolete - or is it?

I am reachable over my behaviour - good or bad - or questions about it by hgl@dr.com, with reserving myself the freedom to share correspondences on my correspondence blog. I think Trent Horn, by reaching more, has a higher responsibility than I to be reachable.

Am I saying that he shouldn't earn money at all by giving any patron exclusive benefits? Not so. Patrons on some Tolkien related channels are voting on certain videos or getting recognition on a credits list that has some nice graphics at the end.

** I am not able to see what happens when no cyber café admin is around, on this topic. You see, both Bibliothèque publique d'information and the municipal libraries of Paris now make youtube comments inaccessible - for the former even youtube tout court.
