8. Gresham liked the script. But then…

Douglas Gresham (co-producer, step-son of C.S. Lewis) said1 The Silver Chair would be “a corker of a movie,” and called an early draft one of the best scripts he has seen for a Narnia movie.

But then, after a change in leadership at the studio, there was pressure to make it a “girl power action movie.”2 At that point, Gresham walked away and the project petered out. Now, Netflix is developing3 Narnia adaptations with Gresham still listed as a co-producer.

There are some books one can read already as a child, and which stay with you for all of your life. And in some cases not just as nostalgia.

There are books for adults that show less maturity than C. S. Lewis' books for children (yes, I am glaring in retrospect at a returned copy of Down and Out in Paris and London - the author was actually putting shoe polish in the holes of his socks and getting too much alcohol by serving in a bar where it was the energy drink ... I'm not sure if bartenders find this mature, I don't).

And I think this one has the most inspired some of my own battles./HGL

PS, as CSL was a professor, he clarified things for one - whose grandson is Glumpuddle:

C. S. Lewis wrote these letters to my grandfather
