It's a clarification of where I stand and where I stood decades ago, and it will not change./HGL

Covid Deaths, US
How Many Americans Have Died of COVID-19?
Ronald Bailey | 3.12.2025 5:15 PM
https://reason.com/2025/03/12/how-many-americans-have-died-of-covid-19/
A February 2024 article in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences calculated excess deaths between March 2020 and August 2022, concluding that around 1.2 million Americans had died of COVID-19.
Out of how many total?
Mortality in the United States, 2020
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db427.htm
In 2020, a total of 3,383,729 resident deaths were registered in the United States—528,891 more deaths than in 2019.
Mortality in the United States, 2021
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db456.htm
In 2021, a total of 3,464,231 resident deaths were registered in the United States—80,502 more deaths than in 2020.
Mortality in the United States, 2022
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db492.htm
In 2022, a total of 3,279,857 resident deaths were registered in the United States—184,374 fewer deaths than in 2021.
Sum:
3,383,729 + 3,464,231 + 3,279,857 = 10,127,817
Can we get away the first two months of 2020 and the last four of 2022?
Not the best to use the average, but this is what I find right now:
2022 Average per Month: ~273,321 deaths
10,127,817 - 4*273,321 = 9,034,533
2020 Average per Month, couldn't find any.
9,034,533 - 2/12*3,383,729 = 8,470,578
Ratio: 1,200,000 / 8,470,578 = 14.16668 %, less than 1/7 of those who died.
And please note, some cases can involve selective reporting about what counts as a Covid death.
Bad? Yes. So bad that traumatising and totalitarian measures needed to be imposed? No.
Here is David Daleiden on one of the people involved:

Similarily, all the vaccines I know of, for this disease, not for all, used fetal cells from a human abortion to cultivate the pathogens. Amoebae and bacteria can be cultivated on sugar solution in a petri dish, but virus aren't alive and therefore have to be cultivated in living cells. It could have been some other living cell, but it wasn't, it was from a human fetus./HGL

"Not Fit to Be a Parent" She Claimed
A debate which was mediatised on FB (perhaps elsewhere too) had Lydia Taylor Davis engage with someone from University of Kentucky who made the following argument:
"90 % of these people are not fit to be parents, wouldn't you guys agree? If you think you are fit to be parents, and your parents are paying your rent, your car bill, paying your f*** bills, you can't raise a kid. So, that's what I have to say ..."
When she left after a few more words of politesse, Lydia Taylor Davis responded, "if you are not fit to be parents, don't engage in acts that make parents" ...
Fair enough, as far as it goes.
But Lydia Taylor Davis never challenged the idea that a person whose parents are paying the bills is ipso facto unfit to be a parent.
For one. Parents can like the idea of becoming grandparents. Indeed, royals back in the day tended to marry fairly early, while their parents (or grandparents) were, at the cost of taxation or feudal incomes, paying their bills.
For another. Getting a job is far harder for young people than it was decades ago. I'm offering an opportunity, which some Capitalistic crooks (like Lydia Taylor Davis' debater) are stopping by presenting me as someone "not fit to be a parent" ...
For a third. Some guys like to stay in power over young people (I've seen that plenty enough in the Capitalistic crooks alluded to) and therefore to exploit a de facto economic dependence as a reason to classify someone as immature.
And that no man might buy or sell, but he that hath the character, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name
[Apocalypse (Revelation) 13:17]
One way of taking either that mark or at least something similarily evil, would be to condone this kind of reasoning.
I've taken the debate back when I actually had a job, as I recall. I said "teens can be mothers, so teens should be able to marry" and I got the reply "back in they day they were getting a job at 15 or 16."
And back in the day, men with a job used to have sufficient money to have a wife without a paid full time job.
Since that day, teen marriages and teen pregnancies have been banned, children have been aborted, teen mothers (with living or especially with dead children or soon to die children) have been infantilised by this Capitalistic prejudice.
One solution is, girls of 14 can, with parental consent, marry, usually someone over 21 (Austria back when Dummrath wrote his anthropology). But what if the actual dad of the baby is an age peer? How awkward to leave the father for a man older than self and leman? Yeah, back in the day, boys and girls were not educated in the same schools after a typical age of puberty. My mother was happy in a form of school known as girls' school and that was not just for the kingdom of Sweden, that also existed in the Third Republic in France. And most certainly in Austria. And boys, tough luck, one had to wait to 21, but at least you were not shown enticements to not waiting every single school day.
So, as I have stated myself as being against Capitalism, some might presume as a kneejerk reaction I'm Communist or Anarchist. No. I tend to present myself as Fascist, making myself deaf to East Europeans hearing "National Socialist" (which I'm not) and just got reminded that Italians themselves might misunderstand because of my own ignorance of Italy, namely just after the war. Not only does it not mean I endorse the Salò Republic (or even the just previous years), it does not mean I distance myself from Gasperi or Pella or Sturzo either. I had forgotten that a deep quarrel between Fascists and Partito Populare Italiano to some means that calling myself a Fascist can come off as taking a distance from Gasperi. I think I'd have followed the recommendations of Don Camillo to not vote Peppone and that would usually not have meant voting MSI. But more than either of these, I'm a nostalgic of times before 1914 or 1789 or 1534 or 1520 (Austria, France, England, Sweden).
What is the solution then? 1) Make young marriages licit again, 2) decrease incitements (like coeducation) to premarital sex), 3) ban abortions. AND stop treating a de facto economic dependance as a sign of immaturity. It's in fact a sign of the last times.

PS, on the item of infantilising people who have not succeeded, Chesterton had sth to say:

Astute observers of my FB Page Might Know: I Share Lots of Pro-Life and Lots of Chesterton
If you are friends with me on FB and actually look me up and have not noted this, astute is probably not the best description you can have for yourself. I mean, if I spend 30 min. on FB, I'm probably sharing at least five of either Chesty* or Lila Rose (or related) or both.
Unless I'm arguing on a FB group for Creation and against Evolution, for Flood and against Deep Time. For Angelic Movers and against Deep Space. For Freewill being real and against it being an illusion of law bound deterministic matter. That happens too.
Some who knew my MSN Group Antimodernism before it shut down in early 2009 will also know that I enumerated four authors who led me to the Catholic Faith in my youth, I can add from ages 9 to 25, to be precise ("don't be!"), these being in chronological order of my becoming their reader:
- C. S. Lewis
- J. R. R. Tolkien
- Gilbert Keith Chesterton
- Hilaire Belloc.
And the most obvious convert to the Catholic Church among these is Chesterton. CSL converted ... back to the Anglican Church he had stopped believing in after his mother died. JRRT actually did convert to the Catholic Church, but this is little known. He was too old to be received simply when his mother converted** so he had to go to Catechesis in order to convert. I think it was at age 12 he was received. Hilaire Belloc was a cradle Catholic, from an Anglo-French couple. The one person of the four who was first some kind of High Churchish Protestantism and then a Catholic, like my own case, was Gilbert.
So, if you have ever concluded he had sth to do with my conversion, you are right. He did not absolutely determine it, it was actually Tollers who gave me the clue when speaking of Anglicanism in the essay on English and Welsh, and it was in my case a matter of Church history: if the Church of England (that of CSL) or Church of Sweden (my own) were split off from the Catholic Church, I either had to defend splitting off, somehow, and it wasn't restorationism, like Joseph Smith would have defended it, or I had to sooner or later join the original Church.***
However, unlike Newman of whom I back then read only one book, the Apologia, Chesterton both accompanied my conversion and became a constant companion through my reading. So, here is on his conversion:

The video is slightly inaccurate in implying that Communist Yugoslavia was part of the Soviet Block. In economics, Tito was continuing while Stalin was discontinuing the NEP, the pro-Kulak policy, which as a Distributist I like. This also led to a rupture between Yugoslavia and the Warszaw Pact, I think even before it was actually formed. However, in lots of other areas, like abortion, like anti-Christian compulsory education, like secret police, it was Marxist, which as a Christian I totally abhor. Like Social Democracy has worked roughly speaking like a Fascism in economics° (also to my liking) but also has loads of Marxism, not unlike Yugoslavia. Both economies obviously functioned better than the Soviet Block, but that doesn't mean the societies were necessarily all that human. Man has other sides to his being than pure economics.
But the point is, I was already abortion banner before joining the Catholic Church. When I say abortion is murder, I'm not simply submitting to the authority of the Church, I already knew that before I accepted this authority. It was one of the reasons for accepting it. Dito for my deep hatred of contraception. Chesterton shared these, but I already had these from mother before coming to him.
And as I was also a Young Earth Creationist on the day of my reception into the Church°° (or what I took to be such), you may imagine that my take on the Galileo trial was to a high degree caught by St. Robert Bellarmine defending Biblical inerrancy. I was OK with being allowed to be Deep Timer and Evolutionist if I wanted, I was OK with being allowed to be Heliocentric. I was even more OK with not being obliged to either. The book by Sister Broomé had recommended Heliocentrism as proven scientifically by parallax, but not presented this as obliging the conscience of the faith. At least, Heliocentrism wasn't proven in Galileo's day. Since 2001, I add: nor has it been proven since.

* Not sure I should call him that, many who do are girls. ** When he was 8, I think. *** In my teens I simply didn't doubt that Caerularius split off from St. Leo IX rather than the inverse, in some of my adult years, I did have such a doubt and became Romanian Orthodox between late 2006 and Pentecost of 2009, when a sermon by an Orthodox priest or bishop drove me back to Old Rome, that sermon endorsing contraception, at least implicitly. ° Specifically, the Swedish Fascist Engdahl, admirer of Mussolini and of Perón, said one of his men (Nysvenskar) was also a party member, a high ranking one, of Social Democrats, and helped form the Saltsjöbad policies. While the technical solution is different, both Fascism and Swedish Social Democracy have as obvious at least short to mid term goals that Employers and Employees should get along and the state help out so they didn't make a civil war or attempts of Revolution over wages. °° At this point, in 1988, there was not yet any CCC with its § 283. Sweden was not France and did not have Pierres vivantes. Also, converts were not required to profess an obedience and acceptance of current positions of the magisterium, a profession "John Paul II" introduced in 1990, in a wording that doesn't make the adhesion conditional on its being a traditional position, unlike Trent Session IV (sententiam quam tenuit et adhuc tenet). Here is a Hero
Sent to Prison for Opposing Abortion
Creation Ministries International | 16 April 2026
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9HVqPSRljY
So was Med. Dr. Xavier Dor (RIP).
Both have opposed abortion to the point of going to prison. Both have also done so in circumstances, not of legislation debates (in or out of legislative bodies), but in circumstances where you have to find sth to say when someone desperate enough to envisage abortion hopefully is to be saved from that.
If a coat hanger abortion ends in a death, and ten coat hanger abortions end in prison, perhaps a thousand woman will refrain from this evil because of that. And nine-hundred-and-ninety-nine to thousand won't regret that.
So, I absolutely find it good that Codice Rocco* punished coat hanger abortions by 1 to 4 years and medically assisted abortions by 2 to 5 years, both for the mother seeking and the med personnel providing abortion. If the mother was under 14 or deemed not in her right mind, whoever was deemed to have forced her into abortion (there's statutory forcing on that area, like statutory rape in some US jurisdictions for way too high an age limit**) got 6 to 12 years.
But some of us don't have the luxury to lean back on a decent state with decent laws, and some still try to talk the second victim of a proposed abortion (the first being the child) out of becoming that.
And some face actual repression for that, from indecent*** state power.

* Italian Penal code issued in 1930, under Il Duce. Later he went astray in some matters, but the early years of this Fascism were decent. Pretty all round, unlike Germany's NSDAP régime, which instantly introduced sterilisations for some hereditary disease and reeducation camps for tramps.
** See how it has changed:
While the unrestricted age of consent is between 16 and 18 in all U.S. states, the laws have widely varied across the country in the past. In 1880, the ages of consent were set at 10 or 12 in most states, with the exception of Delaware where it was 7.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent_in_the_United_States
*** This can happen and has happened in non-dictatorial states. I consider dictatorship vs democracy a side issue. Decency is the main issue, and in dictatorships, Italy and Spain were decent on this issue, Russia and China weren't (and China still isn't). In democracies, Ireland used to be decent, Poland is half decent, US went more decent than before (thank you Mr. Trump, for naming Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett!), while Sweden is pretty indecent. On this and other issues.

Scandinavian Trust vs Feminism
I was watching a video* about a girl who moved to Norway, and commented in strollers outside cafés.
Everyone inside and everyone passing by assumes no one is going to kidnap a baby and no one is going to steal diapers.
In the comments, a dad had a surprise when his children announced a Goldilocks story had happened. He assumed they had made it up so as to dramatise the fairy tale. Nope. A girl really was in the sofa, she had walked in through unlocked doors after her now ex threw her out of the car, and curled up under a blanket in the sofa. They offered her breakfast and a drive home (twelve miles or km away).
I recall living in a village, where people spoke about leaving their door unlocked — that was the absolute norm.
There is one thing about modern Scandinavia that doesn't fit this age old model at all. Abortions. Feminists will trust people outside to leave their baby asleep in the stroller while they take a café, they will trust people walking in through the unlocked door have a good reason (as the girl I mentioned had), they will trust a stranger on the train with their belongings while they go to the cafeteria, but somehow their rolemodels have taught them not to trust the presence of a baby in their life. They trust because they are Scandinavian, they mistrust because they are Feminists./HGL

Chapter 11. Of the Purifications.
6. But if any one suspect that his wife has been guilty of adultery, he was to bring a tenth deal of barley flour. They then cast one handful to God, and gave the rest of it to the Priests, for food. One of the Priests set the woman at the gates that are turned towards the temple, and took the veil from her head, and wrote the name of God in parchment, and enjoined her to swear, that she had not at all injured her husband; and to wish that if she had violated her chastity, her right thigh might be put out of joint; that her belly might swell; and that she might die thus: but that if her husband, by the violence of his affection, and of the jealousy which arose from it, had been rashly moved to this suspicion, that she might bear a male child on the tenth month. Now when these oaths were over, the Priest wiped the name of God out of the parchment, and wrung the water into a vial. He also took some dust out of the temple, if any happened to be there, and put a little of it into the vial, and gave it her to drink. Whereupon the woman, if she were unjustly accused, conceived with child, and brought it to perfection in her womb. But if she had broken her faith of wedlock to her husband, and had sworn falsly before God, she died in a reproachful manner: her thigh fell off from her, and her belly swelled with a dropsy. And these are the ceremonies about sacrifices, and about the purifications thereto belonging, which Moses provided for his countreymen. He also prescribed the following laws to them.

Some People Exist Because Someone Else Was Aborted
Allie Beth Stuckey commented "We shouldn’t accept this as normal," when it comes to one young woman whose mother explained in an essay that both her carreer and her giving birth to the by now young woman were contingent on her having, earlier, an abortion.
You don't justify rape because your existence is contingent on a rape (whether that meant your conception or your ma giving up a hope of holy virginity).
You don't justify slaughter of peasants because your tenth generation grandfather was married to your tenth generation grandmother after her first husband was killed for not quickly enough serving the Thirty Years War soldiers from some other place within or outside the Empire.
You don't justify pushing people out of their lands just because you are US American from Pennsylvania, and by the way, William Penn wasn't the culprit, some of his successors were.
We all live under a death sentence, because Adam made a suicidal act, by taking the forbidden fruit. We can all who are still alive (as long as we haven't taken the mark of the beast) have it commuted to glorious resurrection.
An origin without a taint is as imaginary as a oneself without a taint, it doesn't happen (unless you are Jesus or Mary).
An origin without a taint is as imaginary as a Narnian world that had no flood, that had no division of Old and New Covenant, that had talking beasts dying without original sin and without being irrational beings, like beasts naturally are. A birth thanks to an abortion is as much of a taint as a birth thanks to a rape. Please, Miss or Ma'am, don't take this as a call to suicide, it absolutely isn't. If you want to take it as a call to Christ, feel free to do so. Christmas is in less than a week from now!/HGL
