By an American Monk, Phil Friedl

Be patient, Sons and Daughters of Europe. Do penance and prayer as our ancestors once did. Seek the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Virgin.

The Virgin will crush the serpent's head.

He that shall overcome, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; and he shall go out no more; and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and my new name.
[Apocalypse 3:12]

Thank God!

Dear SPUC supporter,

In amazing news, MPs have just voted AGAINST the assisted suicide bill. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill was voted down by 286 to 270.

This is an huge relief. Parliament has stepped back from the very brink in rejecting this Bill which would have put vulnerable people at incredible risk.

People from a whole range of perspectives – disability, social work, domestic abuse, palliative care and the wider medical professional, and of course, pro-life groups – worked incredibly hard to prove to Parliamentarians and the public how dangerous this Bill is.

Thank you so much for everything you, our supporters, have done. I have been in awe of all the work you have put in over these last few years, and you played a crucial role in this. Everything you have done to lobby MPs and then peers, and to spread the word in your communities, really has made a difference.

Thank you so much, and enjoy the victory!

Spielberg Wants Me to Second Guess My Religion, or So I Have Been Told on FB

Spielberg Wants Me to Second Guess My Religion, or So I Have Been Told on FB · St. Augustine Taught, Even Sane Men View Delusions by Demons

He says "his new alien movie Disclosure Day will make Christians second guess their entire religion".

Over the shared meme, a probable atheist or so explains:

“Is God only our God here on Earth, or is God the creator and God of every civilization throughout the universe?”

This is the challenge I find IF the stories are true from experiencers.

1. Pantheistic Reality
2. God exists but not in the way we think of religion
3. Most religious concepts like "sin" do not exist.
4. Reincarnation in some form exists

These are the challenges I am sure Spielberg is thinking of.

Answer from a Geocentric.

God is certainly the God, Lord and Creator of every creature, whether that creature is rational or irrational, and if rational whether he knows it or not. On earth and inside Earth, as much as above, in Heaven, both planetary Heavens, the sphere of the Fix stars, and God's own Empyrean Heaven (His reception room, which Ezechiel and Daniel and John saw).

This, however, does not mean there are civilisations elsewhere "throughout" the universe, except if you like to say the angels are a civilisation. Enoch and Elijah are guests with them, on a planetary heaven, and biological rational beings (unless angels be biological, a minority view in Catholicism) do not exist apart from on Earth or where they have gone after their life on Earth, like down to Hell or up to Heaven.

An experiencer who thinks he has met an alien civilisation has presumably met a demon, perhaps in some rare cases an angel.

Reality isn't pantheistic.
God is the God of Catholic Christianity. One God in Three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to Whom be Ever Glory.
Sin does exist. Original and mortal sin leads to damnation. Venial sin weakens the resistance to mortal sin.
Reincarnation doesn't exist.

And if someone believes he is reincarnated, a memory of a prior life, he presumably has been deluded by a demon or at the very best experienced an art work with full immersion, but he has no proof he is the same person as the one whose life he recalls, or even that that person existed.

However, deluded by a demon is not a match for "deluded" in the psychiatric sense, as St. Augustine states, so, thank Spielberg for helping experiencers out of asylums where they don't belong.

How Awful, Dr. Ashenden!

A few weeks ago we approached a shocking reading in the liturgy during Mass, and I waited to see how it would be delivered.* [Ephesians 5:22 and following verses]

...

But I never got to hear the passage read in Church at Mass. The middle-aged lady who was on duty to read that day stopped short and refused to continue the reading to the end. There was a pause; and a silence. I looked up to see if it was a dramatic pause? It wasn’t. It was the pause of abandonment. She approached the shocking words of the climax of the Pauline mystery of the mutuality of self-surrender, and stopping short, she turned away and left the lectern several sentences too early.

I was indeed shocked; but not by the text. Instead by the determination of the guardians of ‘progressive church’ to protect our ears from the unthinkable.

Dr. Ashenden, to the Vatican in Exile, you are Monsignor Ashenden.** And I presume that kind of female lector is still not allowed among us.

Just saying./HGL

Does Charles Hurst Know What Evidence Means, in General?

"Even in my lowly bachelor's degree of physical therapy, we had a semester of research methods, which is basically where we learned, not to declare a treatment technique as concrete proof of benefit, when the evidence doesn't show it is concretely proven"

I bet he knows well what evidence means in research about treatment techniques. Fine and dandy.

That doesn't mean he knows how evidence is supposed to look in every other field.

Historical evidence is not evaluated by double-blind protocol.

Metaphysical evidence is not evaluated by arranged experiment with quantifiable factors only studied. You don't quantify "I am conscious and know how it is to be conscious." No more than "if I know I am conscious, I know that beings that look and move like me are conscious" ...

Archaeological evidence is not evaluated by microscopic definitions of Roman Art or Egyptian Mummies or Greek Pottery. If it's disputed sth is genuine, that can come to the rescue, but each is presumed to be recognisable at sight. However, much of it is closer to the medical field, and some people with a medical background are likely to reduce all of historical evidence to archaeological evidence for this reason.

Theological evidence, like Theodicy is also not evaluated by multiple case studies. In fact, when he evaluates the theodicy of Hell, he doesn't use the word "evidence" but he does use the phrase (similarily "evidential sounding") of "multilevel reasoning" when referring to Joshua Tongol. I actually do evaluate the theodicy of Hell with CSL, and I think objections from Annihilationists and Everyone-Gets-Saved-ists are childish.

Charles Hurst seems to ignore this distinction. As a result, he concludes, like many Med School people do, that there can be no evidence of the supernatural. Hence, claiming evidence about it would be, to them, a biassed non-evaluation of evidence. The kind of thing that couldn't pass when researching a treatment technique. He rightly refers to his own unspecified Theism as a "personal belief system" since that particular compromise between Atheist and Naturalist non-Christianity and residues of Christian Theism actually is personal to him. But he thinks this is a modesty owed by every brand of belief in the supernatural, not just by himself. It's ludicrous about Islam and it is ludicrous about Christianity. Both are institutional in their respective Creeds and both make them objective truth claims, meaning, they make them matters of evidence. And one of them is false, it is not Christianity.

Just not double blind studies, usually. If you know a double blind study for Christianity, I'd like to know. Meanwhile, I don't require them./HGL

PS, he misconstrues Ken Ham's calling out on Bill Nye for not having evidence into a claim of having evidence for the Bible. He has that too, but the non-evidence of Bill Nye is not part of it. It's only a rebuttal, against a rival claim of evidence./HGL

PPS, he also showcases a charge of "Spiderman fallacy" ... I've answered it:

When Homer attributes an event to "gods" that don't exist (unlike when like Apollon is a devil), it is misanalysis on his part. And "heros" doesn't mean superheros, it's actually more like "gods" that means that, "heros" simply means men with good courage and bad luck.

By contrast, earliest known audience of Superman or Spiderman or even other DC or Marvel is known to have believed them to be entertainment and only made up for that purpose.

Stories are as said the main evidence there is of historic events. And with ancient history, as often as not or more often, written down centuries later.

Stories are evidence of the past, and "mythological" is a label with very little precise meaning.

PPPS, his views on why we believe in George Washington make for unequal analysis of equal things. The material documents mentioned as unequal in things could be forgeries if George Washington were a myth. The real reason for believing in George Washington is, this is the story that was passed down to us. In the case different stories were passed down to different people, there are relative comparisons of credibility to make. For instance between Gospel accounts of Jesus and Talmud accounts of Jesus. But without the stories of George Washington being the original first president of the entity now known as the US, we would not be convinced by those material pieces of evidence alone./HGL

PPPPS, no, the claim of divinity for Christ doesn't make the burden of proof greater. It makes it more serious, but not greater./HGL

PPPPPS, one thing he gets right, though, is, Jesus believed the Flood happened. He misconstrues this as "Yeshua wasn't divine" because he pretends we know the Flood didn't happen. Ironically, he certainly doesn't have that from double blind studies, the kind of evidence he knows sth about./HGL

Amani Simekha
@AmaniSimekha
@hglundahl that’s not true. Home schooled kids get bullied all the time speaking as one. At church, in college, at the workplace, in sports, and any extracurriculars. It just means you likely don’t have the experience to understand how to respond. I used to go to a huge public school and I would rather that because bullying happens in real life. Making sure your kids don’t meet potentially mean people isn’t a good solution because when they move out they will face jerks and they need to know how to respond. That won’t happen if you never face that kid of adversity. No matter how much you tell someone it’s not the same as experience.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
@hglundahl
@AmaniSimekha "At church, in college, at the workplace, in sports, and any extracurriculars."

That's a problem in the culture. You can't fix that by pretending homeschooling is inadequate. If the culture is sufficiently bad, anything is inadequate.

"It just means you likely don’t have the experience to understand how to respond."

Could be exactly what saves you from becoming a permanent bully victim.

"they need to know how to respond."

Thousand times better ways than to keep them at the mercy of actual bullies in vulnerable years.

"That won’t happen if you never face that kid of adversity."

There are entire lives lived without that kind of adversity and if it's less often now, that's perhaps because public schools involving teens who have no desire for learning but a desire to show off (bec. school compulsion) can't be expelled and bully victims cannot withdraw, so everyone gets used to bullying at an early stage in life.

YOU ARE A YOUNG FOOL PLAYING WITH HELL 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Let's unpack this.

EX ROMAN CATHOLIC BORN CATHOLIC

Possible.

YOU ARE CRAZY❗...IGNORANT

That's a kind of attitude I've come across.

MARIAN DOCTRINES ARE FALSE

Because you don't believe Genesis 3:15, Luke 1:28, Luke 1:42 and Judges 5:24 (with a parallel in Judith, but no parallels outside women killing enemies of Israel all over OT).*

MARY 8S NOT QUEEN OF ANYTHING

If Christ is KING, specifically of the JEWS, Mary is Queen.

HOW COULD A HUMAN WOMAN HEAR MILLIONS OF PRAYERS AT THE SAME TIME EVERYWHERE ❓❓❓

Narnian time, I suppose. Heaven up there has 1 million of seconds while we have only one second. Goes for the other saints too.

CATHOLICS FOLLOW MEN'S DOCTRINES INVENTIONS OF POPES

Protestants follow men's doctrines, inventions of Deformers. (Sometimes misspelled with an R).

WE ARE SAVED ONLY THRU GRACE BY SACRIFICE '' ONE TIME'' ON CROSS NOT BY SACRAMENTS .....

If you mean the sacrifice and the grace are all there is, we need not react in any way to receive that, obviously false. If we DO need to receive it, why not through sacraments? Elisha could have healed Naaman with a word from leprosy, but he preferred telling him to take a bath in the Jordan river. An obvious reference to the first sacrament, Baptism. In fact, Elisha said "seven times" which on the one hand helps to distinguish this image from the real baptism, but also indicates that Baptism isn't the sole sacrament, there are seven of them.

I USE TO ADORE EUCHARIST HOURS LONG ...THIS IS IDOLATRY

Not if the Mass was valid, like per the words of Matthew 26:26.

BODY BLOOD COULD NOT BE LITERAL ... JESUS WAS ALIVE AT LAST SUPPER....HE DIDI NOT DIE YET❗❗❗

They received the living body and the living blood. Actually no one received the Eucharist while He was dead in the grave, we now receive the living resurrected body and the living resurrected blood.

If you mean he was holding the bread in his hands, so it couldn't contain them, you forget that He is God, who "has the whole world, in his hands" and yet he stood as man inside that world. The paradox is just a repeat of the paradox of Incarnation. Ditching the Eucharist is like ditching the divinity of Christ.

GO SEE WHAT N T TEACHES ABOUT REPEATING ENDLESSLY REPETITIVE '' PRAYERS'' LIKE ROSARIES

You mean like Jesus repeating "Father, not my will but thine" in Gethsemane until the disciples went from alpha state to actual sleep?

Or did you refer to a MISTRANSLATION, a LIE AGAINST THE ACTUAL BIBLE of Matthew 6:7?

We know why Pagan prayers were compared to the speaking of someone stuttering and also considered as having many words. No, it was not Mantras, there weren't lots of Hindus in the Roman Empire. Get a paper copy or click an online version of Velleius Paterculus Roman history. Go to the end of book two. Go to the very end. It says "Let me end my volume with a prayer." ... the words that follow aren't a Rosary. Or any other kind of repetitive prayer. It's variations on a theme, because Velleius Paterculus was nervous about saying the right words among so many possibilities.

YOU NEVER KNEW THE LORD NEVER WAS TRULY BORN AGAIN .....

If so, you are not preventing an "apostasy" ... you aren't that anyway, but I mean, even from your own point of view.

RC DO NOT KNOW BIBLE

Was St. Thomas Aquinas RC? It's his feast today, by the way. Did he write commentaries on Psalms, Job, Jeremias, Isaias, Matthew, John, make a collage of older comments on all four Gospels, and on Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Hebrews, and according to some (including me) on Genesis?

NOR HAVE INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

What did Jesus from the Cross ask St. Thomas? "what do you want as a reward?" and what did he answer? "only you, Lord" ... even if you are not a monk and don't restrict your priorities in this life to Jesus alone, if you are a layman, St. Francis of Sales gives lots of advice on how to keep an intimate relationship with Jesus. And do you know what? Luther and Calvin actually don't recommend it. This is where I think Evangelicals are less un-Catholic (if more acrimoniously anti-Catholic, different story) than classic Protestantism. I've tried both before I became a Catholic.

PS, above I attributed to Adam Villemaire a certain attitude from his words, which it seems he personally didn't mean. Others actually do seem to have meant them though, and someone else commenting under him took his words the same way I did:

@hglundahl
@AdamVillemaire "FOOL IS LAUGHING AT SOMEONE ...MOCKING .... CONTEMPT"

I'd include non-laughing versions with the contempt of psychiatric diagnosis.

"SAYING Someone IS '' CRAZY'' IS AN EXPRESSION OF SURPRISE"

Thank you for the clarification.** Given the rest of the tone, I thought you were kind of playing amateur psychiatrist. Sorry. Probably goes for the other commenter too.

* Plus obviously the key understanding that the one victory a human being of any type could possibly have over the Devil is sinlessness, since 1 John 3:8.

** In the culture I have, a bit less Proletarian, I would clearly NOT use those words in this particular way. Hence my unawareness they could be so used. Obviously, once someone mentions this use, yes, I know it exists, but I don't habitually think about it, as I don't use it.

Communist One World State — Condemned

St. James day of 1920, Pope Benedict XV:

BONUM SANE

Indeed, in the votes and the expectations of the most seditious, an idea has matured of a certain universal republic to come, founded on the absolute equality of men and on the communion of goods, in which there would no longer be any distinctions of nationality, and in which is recognized neither the authority of the father over his children, nor the public authority over the citizens, nor the authority of God over men united in a civil consortium. All things which, if they were realized, would necessarily give rise to tremendous societal convulsions, such as that which is now devastating a not small portion of Europe. And precisely to bring about a similar condition of things among other peoples, we see that the common people are agitated by the fury and the impudence of a few, and here and there we see riots.

Other English translation of this paragraph, without the last sentence:

« The coming of a world state is longed for, and confidently expected, by all the worst and most disordered elements. This state, based on the principles of absolute equality of men and a community of possessions would banish all national loyalties. In it no acknowledgment would be made of the authority of the father over his children, or of God over human society. If these ideas are put into practice, there will inevitably follow a reign of unheard of terror. »

Pope Benedict XV on One-World Government
https://www.virgosacrata.com/benedict-xv-on-one-world-government.html

Correction Request Sent to ABC

Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere: Harris Spoke a Lie, Trump Spoke the Truth · New blog on the kid: Correction Request Sent to ABC

Earlier today, I sent a letter to Almin Karamehmedovic, the president of ABC News, and requested the network issue an immediate correction. I’m sharing a copy of that letter below. ...

Focus on the Family, Jim Daly. Here is the letter:

September 11, 2024

Almin Karamehmedovic
President
ABC News
7 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023.

Dear Mr. Karamehmedovic:

During Tuesday night's presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, debate co-moderator Linsey Davis attempted to fact-check the former president's comments concerning the death of babies following failed abortions.

Ms. Davis stated: "There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born."

We wish this was true. Sadly, it is not.

The Born-Alive Infant Protect Act of 2002 has proven inadequate in providing life-saving care for the hundreds of babies born following failed abortions. Tragically, Democrats — including Vice President Harris while serving in the United States Senate — have repeatedly blocked legislation (Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act) that would require doctors and health care professionals to "exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of a child" born alive following an attempted abortion.

For example, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed legislation in his state last year that no longer requires lifesaving measures be taken to help children born after an abortion attempt. Records indicate that eight children in 2019 faced this gruesome fate - and five of them were left to die. No medical professional did anything to help sustain their lives.

During the debate, former President Trump referred to former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's cold and callous answer during a radio interview when he described the scene of a failed abortion where the child is delivered alive. 'The infant would be delivered," Northam said. "The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."

What Governor Northam was describing, and the bill that Governor Walz signed last year, constitutes infanticide.

The moderators also chose to ignore the statistical reality of the tragedy of late-term abortion. They never fact-checked Vice President Harris' claim that President Trump's suggestion that women are having late-term abortion was somehow "insulting." In truth, there are more than 50,000 abortion each year of babies after 15 weeks' gestation and more than 10,000 after 20 weeks.

ABC News and Linsey Davis owe the American people an apology and an immediate correction. As the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously observed, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts."

Quoting the Olive Tree

A newsletter from The Vatican in Exile:

Vance’s astonishing break with the orthodoxy of “boomer conservatism,” as his speech was introduced, includes a revision of the meaning of the U.S.-Israel alliance: “We have to sort of ask ourselves, what do we want out of our Israeli allies?”

No one in this position has asked that question of Israel in living memory. The fact that this obvious question is shocking shows the fact that obvious questions are shockingly absent from the national conversation.

Vance is very likely aware of another shockingly obvious question. Israel – whose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been a driving force behind all the preemptive wars of regime change – is itself no friend to Christianity in its birthplace.

What is the alliance with Israel delivering for Christianity in its most historic site of all?

For years, Church leaders in the Holy Land have warned that “Israel is persecuting Christianity to extinction.” In a systematic and state-sanctioned process of escalating hostility to Christianity, attacks on priests and the desecration of graves and holy sites have increased following the Israeli parliament’s 2018 passing of a nation-state law that insisted “Israel is a Jewish state.”

This removes legal privilege from all non-Jews – Muslims, Christians, and Druze alike. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem called on Catholics and all Christians to protest the new legislation.

Given the enormous power of the neoconservative lobby and that of its allies, it is exceptional for anyone at the top of the U.S. political establishment to speak in defense of Christianity and against the doctrine of “forever wars” which extinguishes it.

It is extremely hopeful for the world, in a time of crisis almost entirely precipitated by the recklessness of the liberal-global order, that its unquestioned alliance with an increasingly unstable Israel faces a realistic reappraisal. The doctrine of permanent war which partners this is set to be abandoned at last.

The Ultimate Pro-Abort : a Man who Wants to Not Take Care of His Own Child

When feminists declare that women’s only hope for freedom and equality is to have the opportunity to abort all unwanted unborn babies, they are giving in to the cultural agenda that accords men the right to impregnate women but absolves them of the responsibility to care for the children they father. The abortion solution agrees that men are not responsible for the children they conceive, and moreover declares that neither are the women. Abortion not only kills innocent human life; it keeps the players in the male game playing. It is a women’s white flag of surrender, saying, we can’t beat them so we have joined them.[4]

"Pagans of Novgorod"

Holmgard: The Mysterious Capital of Ancient Russia

Some comments, not forming a dialogue, three of them from one:

Hans Georg Lundahl
@hglundahl
"As late as 1549, 20:51 "Perun" was used as a warcry by the Novgorodians."

I'm reminded how St. Bridget was proning a crusade to the "Pagans of Novgorod" or "Heathen of Novgorod" ...

I thought it meant the Tatars.

A clergyman or priest of the Vatican II obedience took this as indication St. Bridget was calling Russian Orthodox "heathen" ... and that some of her revelations were not from God.

Well, if Novgorodians shouted Perun un 1549, they may have been pagan in the time of St. Bridget too ...

@vpro5505
There was no such thing as a Capital of Ancient Russia. Russia did not exist at that time. Even Moskovia did not exist at that period. Moscovia was established in 1283. Moscovian tsar Ivan the Terrible destroyed Novgorod in 1570, massacred all population and burned the city to the ground. This is how it became part of Moskovia first, after Moskovia declared itself Russia in 1721, Novgorod became part of Russia. Also Rus has nothing to do with Russia. The title is inacurate. Why to mislead your viewers? We are not dumb.

Moscovian tsar Ivan the fourth Rurikovich hmmmm...

Why does that last name sound familiar?

Troy Davis
@troydavis1
@user-yi7fl3br7u nope, he is correct, this is not ukrainian propaganda, it’s just history. It’s exactly what I learned in my Russian history class from a Russian professor at the university of Strasbourg. And I’m French, not ukrainian.

Now, indeed, the Moscovian or Muscovian princes were Rurikids. Does that by itself make them more direct heirs of Kievan Rus' than Ukraine under Poland?

Well, not necessarily. The dynasty in Norway was Ynglings from unification to St. Olaf. This doesn't mean Norwegians are the true Swedes, just because the Yngling dynasty is originally a Swedish one, up to Ingjald (whom the Beowulf poem in an independent attestation calls Ingeld).

When someone calls himself Grand Prince of Muscovy and all Russia (Ivan III), or Czar of the same (Ivan IV) it may simply be a kind of appeal to Russian states outside Muscovy to join the battle against the Tatars. But if it was meant as denying the Rus'-ness of Kiev, of Ukraine, then under Poland, it is an overreach.

In the video, some evidence is talked of that the original inhabitants in Novgorod might come from West Slavic rather than or more than from North Germanic areas./HGL

PS, the Princes of Muscovy descend from a Daniel of Moscow, youngest son of Alexander Nevsky. Alexander Nevsky descends from a Yuri Dolgorukiy, second youngest son of Vladimir or Volodymyr II Monomakh, his only younger brother was a prince of Volhynia, the descendants of which presumably came to pay tribute to Gediminas of Lithuania./HGL

PPS, the video ends on a note of Novgorod resisting Swedes and Teutonic order.

Indeed, Swedes and Novgorodians were competing about converting the Finns who lived between, and also resisted the Teutonic order. Alexander Nevsky won victories in 1237 and in 1340 over each in that order. Check what happens next:

Upon the conquest of the Grand Principality of Vladimir by the Mongols in 1238,[15] its reigning prince, Yuri II Vsevolodovich, was killed in the Battle of the Sit River; his younger brother, Yaroslav II Vsevolodovich (Alexander's father), requested and received from the Mongol khan his permission to become the new prince. As prince, he assigned Novgorod to his son Alexander. However, while traveling in 1245 to the Mongol capital Karakorum in Central Asia, Yaroslav died. When in 1248 Alexander and his older brother Andrey II Yaroslavich also traveled to Karakorum to attend upon the Great Khan, Andrey returned with the award of the title of grand prince of Vladimir and Alexander the nominal lordship of Kiev.[15]

The footnote 15 refers to:
Feldbrugge, Ferdinand J. M. (20 October 2017). A History of Russian Law: From Ancient Times to the Council Code (Ulozhenie) of Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich of 1649. BRILL. p. 36. ISBN 978-90-04-35214-8.

So, the principality of Vladimir and then of Muscovy got its "rights" over Kiev from Karakorum!/HGL

Sharing, Dangerous pro-abortion amendments tabled to Government Bill

Dear SPUC supporter,

Amendments that would remove abortion from the criminal law have been tabled to the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill.

During the second reading of the Bill last night, pro-abortion Labour MPs Dame Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy both stated their intention to try and use it to liberalise abortion law. Both amendments have now been published.

Dame Johnson’s amendment, New Clause 1, states:

“For the purposes of the law related to abortion, including sections 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and the Infant Life (Preservation) Act 1929, no offence is committed by a woman acting in relation to her own pregnancy.”

This would mean a woman could carry out her own abortion at any time, for any reason.

New Clause 2, tabled by Ms Creasy, is in some ways even more extreme. Ms Creasy also seeks to repeal section 60. This section deals with the crime of concealing the body of a dead baby who dies before, during or after birth.

What happens next?

It will not be known until shortly before the Public Bill Committee first meets when the amendments are likely to be debated. Under the Programme motion, the Bill has to be reported back to the House by 30 January 2024.

We strongly encourage you to contact your MP asking them to oppose these amendments, SPUC will shortly be providing help and guidance to do this. Please stay alert for more updates from SPUC regarding this.

We must and will fight these amendments.

So far, the words of Alithea Williams. I happen to have no British MP, so, I ask any British reader who has to take action./HGL

For my own part, I definitely do not take issue with Palestinian rights, I am not sure that's the best solution, but neither is continued harrassment of Gazawis at checkpoints.

Q: By A Reader
How is Christianity being affected by the Fundamentalist attitude towards belief?

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
Dear Reader, ... ~ Rev. Lauren Van Ham

[No objection to her courtesies]

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
This question is timely and so relevant given the many headlines in our media that could suggest fundamentalist Christian perspectives to speak for all of Christianity. In general, fundamentalism offers one answer and a concrete way of thinking. In an uncertain world, having an answer to hold might offer reassurance, but it usually also means less tolerance toward complexity, diversity, or doubt.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
The question is if she means speaking for "all of the ChristianS" or speaking for "all of the Christian RELIGION" — the media headlines she is thinking of obviously seem to be by journalists aware of the fact that Progressive Christianity is NOT Historic Christianity, meaning that on some level at least, at some degree of Approximation at least, contemporary Fundamentalist Christianity is.

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
Within a fundamentalist view of Christianity, a strong emphasis is placed on the cross — that because of Jesus’s death and resurrection, our missteps are forgiven. But what about all that Jesus did before he died? Jesus’s death hardly absolves us from ignoring his instructions to embrace everyone, especially the outcasts; to reject any marketplace that allows a few to get rich by enslaving others; and to be in relationship with all that lives, celebrating the divinity in all beings.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
Given the preference for companies that do not donate to Planned Parenthood, I think Fundamentalists are pretty aware of that. Plus, the picture she is giving is more about Protestant than Catholic versions of Fundamentalism.

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
And then there is the Bible. In short, biblical education is important and best not left to the ones trying to win an election. Christian Nationalism, we know, uses sections of the Bible to speak for all of the Bible, as though there were “one” biblical worldview, which is completely untrue. Written over hundreds of years by many authors, each responding to social concerns and political power moves of that moment, the Bible is exclusive in one spot and inclusive in the next. It is not possible to believe everything in the Bible – but the parts we do believe say a lot about the kind of Christianity we practice.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
It totally is possible to believe EVERYTHING in the Bible, provided one does not believe in the Bible ALONE.

God is one, does not contradict Himself, and each hagiographer was divinely prompted to speak and write what God wanted and in doing so divinely preserved from contradicting what God knows and wants us to know.

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
When a fundamentalist interpretation promotes hate, causes and perpetuates harm, or allows a political system to rise in authoritarianism, we are living again in the Roman Empire (guess what?).

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
It seems Lauren Van Ham has at least anti-Rome biasses in common with Protestant Fundies.

Don't get me wrong. I believe the Empire of Rome was the fourth beast of Daniel, BUT specifically as a Senatorial Republic without any permanent Monarch (one monarch for six months in a crisis or two dyarchs in a normal years is a very downplayed monarchic function.)

When Nero started persecuting Christians, he did so in at least purported obedience to Senatus Consultum de Bacchanalibus. When Rome ended the 280 year long period of initial persecutions, it was an Emperor who did so, when the Edict of Milan was signed by Constantine.

Some Protestants seem to fear the reintroduction of an Austrian or Holy Roman Emperor would be reintroducing the Fourth Beast. I consider the Emperor was rather o κατεχων while the Mystery of Evil was at work in the Senate. I therefore consider the reintrouduction of the Fourth Beast in its damageable dimension was already the work of lots of Republican Revolutions.

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
Jesus calls us to dismantle such accumulations of power and to do so humanely, with creativity.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
In fact, the Roman Empire was not all that power accumulated.

In the Holy Land, you could have a representative of Rome, along with a local leader. Some of what the texts say about the arrest and Crucifixion of Our Lord suggests that Rome was even outsourcing parts of the power to the Temple. Rome did not hold full sway over each locality in all respects, but rather for instance prevented wars between the Holy Land and Syria (as there had recently been between the Maccabees, not yet Roman protégés when this started, and the vassal of the Senate who is known as Antiochus IV Epiphanes).

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
He used stories to teach and to liberate. His parables encourage self-reflection. His opposition toward those misusing power was incredibly effective!

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
No quarrel with that. Concentrating powers over many lands in one city and misusing power are very different things.

And he modeled ways, always, to make otherwise empty religious practices come alive with relevance and meaning because he prioritized relationship and creativity.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
I don't know what you mean by "empty" practises. Some practises were on occasion emptied, by making the one offering a sacrifice impure (offering a corban to the temple while denying the luxury to a father or whoever the father was intending to give it to, offering sth on the altar while bearing a grudge to someone or knowing one had wronged someone), and He insisted on moral purity. Obedience to parents (in licit things which are within the parents' chosing, see St. Barbara whom we will celebrate in 10 days for an exception), peaceful relations to the neighbour.

Answer
by Rev. Lauren Van Ham
Centering liberation, justice, and radical love for all beings, the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12) offer a glimpse at how Jesus walked in the world and give us operating instructions to which we can all aspire. Within the Beatitudes, we find a list of ways to live with ourselves and others that both beg introspection and call us toward meaningful, visible action. May this be the Christian community’s roadmap away from any inaccurate interpretations of Jesus’s embodied invitation for us all.

Comment
by Hans Georg Lundahl
Not just the Beatitudes, but also the Sheep and Goats.

However, neither of these passages includes anything disparaging to the Young Earth implication of another very practical passage (on marital indissolubility), Mark 10:6. Or to taking a cue from Jesus' action in chosing 72 and then 12 males as Apostles, and therefore not recognising Lauren Van Ham as clergy.

Nor do they preclude being moderately Roman (in the secular sense), with a preference of Emperors over Senate, and of Habsburgs over the Julian dynasty.

Here I end and wish my readers all the best, including not to be misled by Progressive Christian guilt by association tactics to promote misreading Genesis 1—11 or 1—50 as myth ... and therefore somehow not fact.
