Je me vante d'avoir recherché ceci ?

Fossils Support the Global Flood—Not Evolution

Bingo:

Original animal protein in fossils? Yes!

Brian Thomas donne deux références.

  • parchemin est du collagène, et les Manuscrits de la mer Morte, dont partie en parchemin, sont en train de se décomposer après juste 2000 ans, faut pas rêver de millions d'années ;

  • Buckley, M. and Collins, M., Collagen survival and its use for species identification in Holocene-lower Pleistocene bone fragments from British archaeological and paleontological sites.

  • Doyle, S., The Real Jurassic Park, Creation 30(3):12–15, 2008;
    creation.com/real-jurassic-park.

Here is a Hero

Sent to Prison for Opposing Abortion
Creation Ministries International | 16 April 2026
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9HVqPSRljY

So was Med. Dr. Xavier Dor (RIP).

Both have opposed abortion to the point of going to prison. Both have also done so in circumstances, not of legislation debates (in or out of legislative bodies), but in circumstances where you have to find sth to say when someone desperate enough to envisage abortion hopefully is to be saved from that.

If a coat hanger abortion ends in a death, and ten coat hanger abortions end in prison, perhaps a thousand woman will refrain from this evil because of that. And nine-hundred-and-ninety-nine to thousand won't regret that.

So, I absolutely find it good that Codice Rocco* punished coat hanger abortions by 1 to 4 years and medically assisted abortions by 2 to 5 years, both for the mother seeking and the med personnel providing abortion. If the mother was under 14 or deemed not in her right mind, whoever was deemed to have forced her into abortion (there's statutory forcing on that area, like statutory rape in some US jurisdictions for way too high an age limit**) got 6 to 12 years.

But some of us don't have the luxury to lean back on a decent state with decent laws, and some still try to talk the second victim of a proposed abortion (the first being the child) out of becoming that.

And some face actual repression for that, from indecent*** state power.

* Italian Penal code issued in 1930, under Il Duce. Later he went astray in some matters, but the early years of this Fascism were decent. Pretty all round, unlike Germany's NSDAP régime, which instantly introduced sterilisations for some hereditary disease and reeducation camps for tramps.

** See how it has changed:

While the unrestricted age of consent is between 16 and 18 in all U.S. states, the laws have widely varied across the country in the past. In 1880, the ages of consent were set at 10 or 12 in most states, with the exception of Delaware where it was 7.

*** This can happen and has happened in non-dictatorial states. I consider dictatorship vs democracy a side issue. Decency is the main issue, and in dictatorships, Italy and Spain were decent on this issue, Russia and China weren't (and China still isn't). In democracies, Ireland used to be decent, Poland is half decent, US went more decent than before (thank you Mr. Trump, for naming Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett!), while Sweden is pretty indecent. On this and other issues.

° I chose him to commemorate, because he was a recipient of the acts of the First Council of Toledo, which back in 400 AD have a clean "filioque" in the explanatory creed. See Filioque far older than III Council of Toledo

The truth about the Galileo affair
By Dominic Statham | Published 08 Nov, 2018

It wasn’t until Isaac Newton (1643–1727) that the matter could be settled. Newton’s law of gravity and his three laws of motion made clear that the planets (including the earth) had to orbit the solar system’s centre of mass. Because the sun is so massive the centre of mass can be treated as being at the sun’s centre. Kepler’s model, then, was proven to be the correct one—there was neither need for nor a physical mechanism to produce epicycles.

The need to produce epicycles is, that's what we observe, unless they are impossible.

The physical mechanism for epicycles is, angels move planets. That being the physical mechanism for fix stars moving in "annual aberration" and "annual parallax" as well, we have no need to put the stars very far out, and have no Distant Starlight Problem. Meanwhile, the physical mechanism for the daily motion of the visible universe around earth is God.

Biblical proof text for Geocentrism?

But Jesus answered them: My Father worketh until now; and I work.
[John 5:17]

The context being working on the Sabbath. From Friday sunset to Saturday sunset God is moving the universe, with the Sun, around Earth. If God Himself took a day off, it would never come to an end (OK, he did take a day off in Joshua's time, but it wasn't to take a rest, it was to give Joshua's men light to fight).

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice Because that which is known of God is manifest in them. For God hath manifested it unto them For the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable
[Romans 1:18-20]

Again, God's turning the universe around us, not taking any day off./HGL

Fig. 2P finit en :

5400 cal.

2097 BC**
74.949 pmC, dated as*** 4481 BC
2088 BC
Reu died (mourut)
2086 BC
Terah born (naquit)
2074 BC
76.074 pmC, dated as 4335 BC

  • l'atmosphère est jeune, a débuté il y a pas trop longtemps (des milliers d'années, pas de dizaines de milliers) avec un taux très bas de carbone 14, peu distinguable du niveau nul ;
  • avant le Déluge le taux montait beaucoup plus lentement ;
  • un peu après le Déluge il commence à monter vite, avec une production de carbone 14 plus vite que de nos jours ;
  • et il se calme au niveau ou pas loins du niveau qu'on appelle "100 pCm" environ vers la Chute de Troie ;

  • avant le Déluge pas mal davantage d'Oxygène se trouvait dans l'atmosphère, qui a été ensuite recombiné avec Hydrogène en eau, une des raisons du Déluge ;
  • ce surplus faisait que l'atmosphère était plus vaste, mais la présence de Nitrogène moins dense : après le Déluge, 2/3 de l'atmosphère sont du Nitrogène, avant, il y avait davantage d'Oxygène pour le diluer, or, la formation de Carbone 14 se fait à partir de Nitrogène très haut dans l'atmosphère, cette formation de Carbone 14 était donc plus lente ;
  • le cycle carbonique comporte les êtres qui respirent, mais pas mal de ceux-ci sont enfouillis par le Déluge, après le Déluge la biosphère va réduire le taux total de Carbone dans l'atmosphère, les êtres vivants vont prendre du carbone là où les êtres enfouis n'auront pas redonné, donc, chaque production de Carbone 14 va impacter la partie carbonique davantage ;

  • la population humaine d'avant le Déluge aurait été totalement annéanti (à part les 8 sur l'Arche) selon Genèse 6:13, mais on trouve des Néanderthaliens dont il reste des os, ils n'ont donc pas été totalement annéantis et n'appartiennent pas à cette population ;
  • dans le couches de Néanderthals et de Cro-Magnons, on trouve les gens un peu partout sur la Terre, pas concentrés dans la seule région montagneuse d'Arménie ou la seule Mésopotamie, mais, comme cité, les gens se seraient répandus quand Dieu les dispersa (Genèse 11:9) ;
  • on retrouve les Néanderthaliens souvent en grottes carstiques, et les carstes sont un phénomène d'après le Déluge ;

  • la population est suffisamment annéantie si personne (à part les 8) ne survécut, ce n'est pas nécessaire que les ossements s'absentent aussi ;

Some Guys on CMI Might be Overdoing Work Ethic

New blog on the kid: Some Guys on CMI Might be Overdoing Work Ethic · HGL's F.B. writings: My Writings are NOT Outflows from My Innermost Devotion and are NOT Meant to be Seen and Read by God Alone

Two quotes (see source below) might illustrate this.

How much does God want us to work?

God worked for six days and rested on the seventh as an example to us. He created us to need to sleep at night, and also to need a break from working. When God rescued the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt, He gave them a special gift. They never got a day off when they were slaves of the Egyptians, but to show them that He is a kind God, He gave them the Sabbath—one whole day of rest every week!

Having a day to rest is an opportunity to show we trust God to give us what we need. And God also gave Israel extra days off to worship, they were like huge parties for the whole nation!

God not just gave Israel three great feasts, which indeed were like huge parties and at which wine or shekhar (something like date-cider / bread-beer) were enjoined*, but also gave a Israel the right to proclaim more feast, also like huge parties, and we know at least two of them, namely Purim and Hanukkah. Their origins are described in Esther and Maccabees. We know from John 10:22 that Jesus observed Hanukkah.

This is important, since the Church also has the right to proclaim feasts, starting with the reinterpretation of the three great feasts and their displacing to other days, and with the displacing of Sabbath to Sunday, arguably already by the Apostles. However, there are more and more things to celebrate, and therefore more and more days off.

This is a good thing. Parts of the evils of the 16th C. Deformations and the later Modernisations and Revolutions were abolitions of Christian feasts, and this benefitted mainly employers and (for Communism) central planners.

So, let's not give the impression the ONLY times we have a right to a day off is once a week plus when God Himself mandated a feast!

Did Jesus work?

We know that Jesus was a carpenter, like His adopted father, Joseph. Carpentry was hard work, and they didn’t get paid a lot, so Jesus had to work really hard. Joseph probably died sometime after Jesus was 12 years old, so Jesus would have had to work to provide for His mother Mary and His siblings until His ministry started. Jesus’ disciples worked too; several of them were fishermen, another job that required a lot of hard work!

Catholic tradition would have contributed to give the impression St. Joseph died just shortly before Jesus was Baptised.

The guys on CMI suppose Jesus was supporting younger siblings, there weren't any. The youngest child who naturally came from St. Joseph, St. James the Brother of God, was born just before Joseph's first wife died. The Blessed Virgin was his second wife. Jesus would if anything have been supported by St. Joseph's older children, if he had died earlier than when Jesus was going on thirty.

That carpentry was badly paid is not necessarily true. A trouser or, for back then, a tunic, lasts longer than the bread or fish for a meal. But a house lasts longer than a garment.** Therefore, it would tend to get accordingly well paid. As far as we know there were no huge conglomerates of carpenters who would outcompete individual small business, underpay the employees and try to sell all of this first to non-carpenters by temporarily underpricing the product. There were no usurers who could have financed that behaviour, taking money from a fellow Israelite for a loan was forbidden***. So, probably a carpenter was fairly well paid and small business. He was however not among the posh.°

Fishermen would probably be more exhausted by their work than carpenters. Both had moments of carrying or pulling, but the other moments would be colder and night shift for fishermen.

The existence of disciples was, apart from fishing trips, definitely less physical work. Precisely as a university student is working less with other things than the brain than a building worker or off-shore fishing ship mate.

The fact of physical work is in itself honourable, as thereby we acquit ourselves of the debt owed by Adam, but the lack of it is not always dishonourable. Like when compensated by studying or by teaching. Or printing. Or writing.

** I tend to take the view that the "labour hours" view of value is false, the "usefulness" view is correct.°° Obviously a loaf of bread is more necessary than clothing, but the clothing lasts longer. The house lasts longer than the piece of clothing. This kind of value will roughly speaking coincide with work hours value, but not always.

Did Maarten Labuschagne Have a Right to Challenge God Like That?

I once was both pro-ANC and pro-Desmond Tutu. The Lutheran Church where I had been baptised was asking us to collect money for the peaceful projects of ANC — like schools and so.

I was at a boarding school. Another pupil, whom I was in love with, was born in Zuid-Africa. I did not know that, I asked her for a coin for ANC's peaceful project, and she told me about ... well, what Maarten found out:

After high school, Maarten worked briefly for the railway before entering the South African army for compulsory military training. While there, his distrust and hatred of other races, particularly tribal Africans, grew considerably. Army training sessions often featured footage of widespread unrest in black townships during the 1970s and 80s. The films often portrayed graphic violence, including the infamous public ‘necklacing’ of suspected collaborators. This involved placing a tyre doused in gasoline around the victim’s neck and lighting it. His reaction, he said, was always,

“These perpetrators are sub-human! Just animals! Otherwise, how could they act like this?”

I did certainly not conclude that black Africans were subhuman, just that ANC was making them act in highly unchristian ways (like the kind of things that the Christian Beowulf poet left out: he made no remarks about "Hygelac" — "Hugleik" to us — Beowulf's uncle on his mother's side, actually dying as a robber trying to pillage and possibly rape Christians). I had collected my last Swedish Krona for ANC.

But to the point:

In September 1998, in utter desperation, Maarten cried out to God: “God, you have to change me!”, even challenging God’s right to send him to Hell if He failed to do this.

My cry was mingled with doubt over whether God was real or would respond. But it was utterly genuine, a recognition that I could not save myself. I didn’t then understand the assurances His Word gives for the repentant heart, but I certainly knew that Hell was real, and I didn’t want to go there.

Did he have the right to make this challenge? This is what I asked in the title. Actually yes.

You see, he had been baptised as a child. Baptism had done two things, since he posed no obstacle by clinging to heresy or personal sins when he was baptised:

  • it had cleansed him from Adam's sin (though not cured all of the consequences, like mortality and being subject to illness and aging and mood swings);
  • it had also given him the character of baptism.

Actually, it would have given him the character of baptism even if he had posed an obstacle to being then and there justified. What does this character mean?

It does not mean that your name being written in the book of life can never be blotted out from it. But it does mean, as long as you are alive, that you have a right to ask God for the graces needed to repent. You have a personal right to call Jesus your Saviour. A person who is already justified, and who then sins mortally, certainly has no right in and of his state of mortal sin, to get justified again. However, he does have a standing through his baptismal character to appeal to God to help him out of sin.

This is obviously so whether the sin involved gang violence like that of Maarten's former life, or gang violation 1 Tim 4:11 by stamping someone else as a sinner and mixing oneselves in his affairs when clearly not asked to and when repeatedly told it annoys him. Perhaps some guys over here in Paris should take note.

As his Christian faith grew, he was baptized and went to Bible College. He was also a pastoral counsellor at one of the biggest drug rehabilitation centres in South Africa.

I was already supposing he was baptised as an infant, i e his parents were of Presbyterian and not Baptist confession. If I was not wrong, I cannot congratulate to this re-baptism, since it is objectively a sacrilege. I'd suggest he repent of that, and get out of congregations that re-baptise when the only reason to doubt an already extant baptism is, he was supposedly too young for it.

God and Gardens

Every attempt to amplify that story has diminished it. The task has been attempted by many men of real genius and eloquence as well as by only too many vulgar sentimentalists and self-conscious rhetoricians. The tale has been retold with patronising pathos by elegant sceptics and with fluent enthusiasm by boisterous best-sellers. It will not be retold here. The grinding power of the plain words of the Gospel story is like the power of mill-stones; and those who can read them simply enough will feel as if rocks had been rolled upon them. Criticism is only words about words; and of what use are words about such words as these? What is the use of word-painting about the dark garden filled suddenly with torchlight and furious faces? ‘Are you come out with swords and staves as against a robber? All day I sat in your temple teaching, and you took me not.’ Can anything be added to the massive and gathered restraint of that irony; like a great wave lifted to the sky and refusing to fall? ‘Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.’ As the High Priest asked what further need he had of witnesses, we might well ask what further need we have of words. Peter in a panic repudiated him: ‘and immediately the cock crew; and Jesus looked upon Peter, and Peter went out and wept bitterly.’ Has any one any further remarks to offer? Just before the murder he prayed for all the murderous race of men, saying, ‘They know not what they do’; is there anything to say to that, except that we know as little what we say? Is there any need to repeat and spin out the story of how the tragedy trailed up the Via Dolorosa and how they threw him in haphazard with two thieves in one of the ordinary batches of execution; and how in all that horror and howling wilderness of desertion one voice spoke in homage, a startling voice from the very last place where it was looked for, the gibbet of the criminal; and he said to that nameless ruffian,{240} ‘This night shalt thou be with me in Paradise’? Is there anything to put after that but a full-stop? Or is any one prepared to answer adequately that farewell gesture to all flesh which created for his Mother a new Son?

...

They took the body down from the cross and one of the few rich men among the first Christians obtained permission to bury it in a rock tomb in his garden; the Romans setting a military guard lest there should be some riot and attempt to recover the body. There was once more a natural symbolism in these natural proceedings; it was well that the tomb should be sealed with all the secrecy of ancient eastern sepulture and guarded by the authority of the Caesars. For{244} in that second cavern the whole of that great and glorious humanity which we call antiquity was gathered up and covered over; and in that place it was buried. It was the end of a very great thing called human history; the history that was merely human. The mythologies and the philosophies were buried there, the gods and the heroes and the sages. In the great Roman phrase, they had lived. But as they could only live, so they could only die; and they were dead.

On the third day the friends of Christ coming at daybreak to the place found the grave empty and the stone rolled away. In varying ways they realised the new wonder; but even they hardly realised that the world had died in the night. What they were looking at was the first day of a new creation, with a new heaven and a new earth; and in a semblance of the gardener God walked again in the garden, in the cool not of the evening but the dawn.

"God walked again in the garden" ?

God had strolled with Adam and Eve, obviously, in Eden, and also in Galilee which Chesterton compares to Eden:

Therefore the story of Christ is the story of a journey, almost in the manner of a military march; certainly in the manner of the quest of a hero moving to his achievement or his doom. It is a story that begins in the paradise of Galilee, a pastoral and peaceful land having really some hint of Eden, and gradually climbs the rising country into the mountains that are nearer to the storm-clouds and the stars, as to a Mountain of Purgatory.

Why did I come to think of this?

Ham earned a bachelor's degree in applied science (with an emphasis on environmental biology) from the Queensland Institute of Technology and holds a Diploma in Education from the University of Queensland.

He attended Wellington College in New Zealand, later graduating from Victoria University of Wellington with a BSc (Hons.) in chemistry, and a PhD in the same subject for a thesis entitled "A Spectroscopic Study of some Chalcogenide Ring and Cage Molecules". He co-authored a paper on high-temperature superconductors that was published in Nature in 1987 ("Letters to Nature"),[3] and from 1988 to 1995, had five papers on spectroscopy of condensed matter samples published in other peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Purdom studied at Cedarville University**, graduating in 1994,[1] before going on to get a PhD in molecular genetics from Ohio State University.**

And I Also Do Not Believe We Live in a Simulation

And I Also Do Not Believe We Live in a Simulation · My Reason Why I Think the Fix Stars are One Light Day Up

I came across this piece from CMI:

CMI : Is the universe a simulation?
First published: 25 February 2017 (GMT+10)
Re-featured on homepage: 9 July 2022 (GMT+10)
https://creation.com/is-the-universe-a-simulator

And it basically involves not just why they but also why I reject the idea of our universe being a simulation. Here is the paragraph:

And ask yourself, what is the simplest conclusion: that we’re a 5th level simulation, or that we’re living in a real world? Clearly the latter. As such, without any evidence for being in a simulation, we have no reason to suppose that we are in one. After all, why should we think e.g. our sense and memory beliefs (by which we ‘know’ about the physical world) are untrustworthy? And I’m not talking about occasional failures in those faculties. I’m asking: why should we consider our sense perception and memory beliefs generally unreliable? See, to be able to judge them as generally unreliable, we need some means of doing so. But we can’t get outside of our own sense and memory beliefs to do so! So there’s no way to do that apart from using our sense and memory faculties. But if we do, we end up assuming the general reliability of our sense and memory faculties to deny their general reliability. So, such skepticism about the reality of the physical world by and large ends up having to presume what it tries to deny.

Fine and dandy ... why have people then suspected me of believing we live in a simulation?

Interestingly, several panellists pointed out that the designer of such a simulation, being outside and above the simulation, parallels the idea of God.

Yes, I do believe there is a God and that He wields powers over the universe similar to those a simulator would have over a simulation.

That's one of the reasons. And it is a bad one, since it encourages:

  • a confusion between Christianity and a very wild and counterintuitive, hypersceptical idea
  • and also a confusion between rejecting such an idea and rejecting any parts of Christianity that the enquirer thinks reminiscent of them, and therefore also between Christians rightly rejecting "the Matrix" and people who are not really Christians at all any more, since they have rejected parts of Christianity.

Here is another.

Some will claim that Earth having "millions and billions of years" in its history, stars being "billions of light years away" and "Earth orbitting the Sun" are gained by using sense data. Therefore, the rejection of these ideologemes would be a rejection of sense data, a disqualification of the reliability of senses and memory they are supposedly solely indebted to - along with, some would add "obviously" - good reasoning about these data.

I simply think such reasonings are bad, and not because our reasoning faculty in general is bad, I do not hold the least to "we are so corrupt we cannot even think straight" or similar things. I think such reasonings are bad because they presuppose incorrect premisses.

When a piece of matter that contains both lead and uranium is dated to 4.5 billion years, the incorrect premiss I most suspect to be such is "the only isotope of lead that does not always come from uranium or thorium is lead 204, while atom weights 206, 207 and 208 invariably come from decay" ...

When the Andromeda galaxy is described as 150 000 light years across (or in the English wiki 220 000 liht years across) and 2.45 million light years away, the incorrect premiss is likely to be "it consists of stars of the main series and therefore of sizes in the main series, i e roughly solar size" which combined with how it's analysed as consisting of so many stars involves these being very, very far away.

When it comes to the "main series stars are roughly solar size" the incorrect premiss is "we have seen this by comparing parallax and distance to apparent size" and this in turn from "parallax shows the distance" which is from "Earth orbits the Sun at a known distance and certain phenomena are correctly analysed as parallax - an inverse view of earth's movement" ...

Here is how parallax will not show the distance in a Geocentric universe, while it will show it in a Heliocentric one:

So, given my acceptance of Geocentrism, the rejection of parallax measures of distance is a matter of correctly analysed geometry. If a certain triangle involves Earth at two points and the star at one point, and the distance between the positions of the Earth known, we have two angles and a distance = enough to triangulate the triangle. If on the other hand it involves Earth at one single point and the star at two points with an unknown distance, we have exactly just one angle, and that is NOT enough to triangulate anything.

And when it comes to accepting Heliocentrism as "proven" the number one false premiss I come across again and again is, "Earth and Sun cannot have their relative movements determined by factors involving will, but need to have them determined solely by inertia and gravitation and these are determined solely by the Masses, and Sun fairly obviously has the greater one" - and the key problem is "Earth and Sun cannot have their relative movements determined by factors involving will, but need to have them determined solely by inertia and gravitation."

Here I can somewhat relate to how to some people the fact of believing stars and Sun to be moved around Earth each day by God and Sun also to be moved around the zodiac by an angel would recall "matrix" - the key similarity is that for phenomena spanning the whole sky we see, something is arranged by a will or by a hierarchy of more than one wills, God's will being over the angels and both being over matter - or the simulator's will being over any detail in the simulated universe.

However, we do have from our daily experience, and not at all by straining credulity in our senses or memory, indeed rather by strengthening them, the fact that wills do trump matter. The letters in this essay were not put together by complex configurations of either electricity or gravitation, but by my will to express certain truths.

My world view does not differ from materialism like the "matrix" by believing less than by senses, but unlike the matrix by believing my senses and more than them, like my introspective certainty I do have a will trumping the movements of my fingers.

"But can't we show that introspection is often wrong and unreliably?"

Here I give the word to Shaun Doyle, as he continues the above cited paragraph:

The fundamental mistake people tend to make with this extreme skeptical line is thinking that, just because sense and memory can be fooled, that means they are habitually fooled.

Dito for introspection, and I have just painted myself out of and my detractors into the same corner as the matrix believing ultra-sceptics. Thank you for your kind assistance, Shaun Doyle!

While Evolutionists Tend to be Alien Believers ... It Began with Bruno

CMI : The War of the Worlds Comes Down to Earth

Both Galileo and Kepler refused to believe that God had created only one mankind, in Galileo's case, he didn't believe in men on the moon, but tended to think, creatures on the moon would be unimaginable.

Giordano Bruno believed in every star being a Sun with its own earth - and the Trinity of Our Solar System being different from that of Sirius'. God the Father created all, but God the Son is united to each Sun, and The Holy Spirit helps each Earth turn around its axis as its soul.

That is why the Inquisition burned him.

If CMI are wary of me because I say angels use stars and planets as a kind of spaceships (including the Sun), while Heiser has said "angels" are a work description and "stars" a description of the nature of the same creatures (as per studies in Biblical vocabulary) and while the host of heaven appears both as "sun moon and stars" (don't adore them) and as "twelve legions of angels" (that Jesus could have called on), and while I am as little a UFO-logists as Heiser, but then they endorse - fortunately not Bruno, but at least Galileo and Kepler - they are sifting midge and swallowing camels.

Kepler and Euler used basic UFO-logy to argue for Heliocentrism, well before Darwin came around, or even Lamarck./HGL

Five Modes of Scepticism: Sextus Empiricus and the Agrippan Modes
Reviewed by Richard Bett, Johns Hopkins University
https://ndpr.nd.edu/news/five-modes-of-scepticism-sextus-empiricus-and-the-agrippan-modes/

Now, I didn't get very far, but I did get to the point in the discussion of diaphonia or discord where we have a school divergence between The Conciliatory and The Steadfast.

I believe sth. I then find out that there are equal grounds (of fact and logic) against it as I already knew for it. I am not sure this case ever occurs, but for Sextus Empiricus it does, and obviously anyone in Sextus Empiricus' school would agree that in this case I should suspend my judgement.

Now, there is another case, where the Sceptic school is (not sure if under Antiquity or more recently) divided: I believe sth to be proven. I then find out someone of equal authority to myself believes the opposite is proven.

Should I suspend my judgement?

First of all, we are dealing with a discussion of the philosophy known as Scepticism, an epistemology different from Platonian and Aristotelic and even Stoic dogmatism and also different from Xenophantic or Xenophanean total agnosticism, or strong agnosticism. So, as Christianity is closer to Plato and Aristotle than to Sextus Empiricus, the Sceptic answer may not oblige me.

But in fact, there is not one sceptic answer to this one, but two. The one school is called "The Steadfast" and the other "The Conciliatory".

The Conciliatory reasons:

  • i. In this question Subject 1 (in this case myself) and Subject 2 are of equal epistemic proficiency, equally familiar with the facts, equally good logicians, and come to opposed conclusions.
  • ij. Whenever on whatever subject Subject 1 and Subject 2 are of equal epistemic value and they arrive at opposed conclusions, there is insufficient reasons to chose one over the other and one should suspend judgement.
  • iij. In this question, I should therefore suspend judgement.

The Steadfast refutes this by claiming that ij. is an invalid principle. If he has no more proof against his position than someone his epistemic equal thinking the opposite, he should stick to it.

And if The Conciliatory were to insist, he would refute himself by - once he knows the position of The Steadfast - behaving like The Steadfast.

The Conciliatory can therefore only insist in a limited perspective, if ij. in his reasoning is not universally valid but only valid for the kind of subject he is investigating.

Which brings one to the question - here I am reasoning on after having to stop reading on - what would the principle behind a limited acceptance of ij. be?

Now, there is one category of people who seem, to me, to have behaved as if they insisted on me having a duty to behave like The Conciliatry, or perhaps even to recognise "Subject 2" as being my epistemic superior. And therefore a duty to short circuit any reasoning about the facts or the logic with a deference to an epistemic superior.

More than one of them could be involved with shrinks, but more than one of them would also have another motive. They would be sure the Evolutionists comprise people my epistemic superiors where I am Creationist. They would be sure the Heliocentrics do so when I am Geocentric, and they would be sure some Theologian could disprove my contention that Catholicism is epistemically vastly superior to Protestantism, and that Protestantism is in fact self refuting.

I do not think people should measure each other as epistemic superiors or inferiors on a lifelong basis (a learner would in some sense be an epistemic inferior to the one he's learning under, but the goal is to reach a point of epistemic equality in mastering the subject). I also do not think who is epistemically superior to whom is more important than facts and logic. Even Catholicism and Protestantism : Richard Fangrad is epistemically inferior to Catholicism, since we know and he doesn't know on what basis Bible verses with different interpretations should in general be decided, namely on tradition and magisterial decision, but this does not leave him with a duty to abandon Young Earth Creationism as soon as he meets a would be representative of Catholicism telling him (wrongly) that Catholicism does not encourage Young Earth Creationism.

He would be perfectly right to conclude that that Catholic were epistemically his inferior if the Catholic thought he had a reason in Tradition, in Church Fathers, to treat Genesis 1 to 11 as non-historic and as having only a Sensus Allegoricus. Because that Catholic would in fact be ignorant of what Catholicism means by Sensus Litteralis and Sensus Allegoricus, and also wrong to believe Tradition assigns to Genesis 1 to 11 only a Sensus Allegoricus but no Sensus Litteralis or no factual truth in that Sensus. That Catholic would have been told and would have believed a very garbled version of what the Four Senses actually mean, and a Catholic badly instructed in Catholicism is not necessarily epistemically superior to a Protestant. Indeed, the Protestant is only Christian by being Catholic (baptised, believing in Christ) and only heretic by being badly instructed. So, the badly instructed Catholic is his epistemic equal where the instruction is bad, or even, in some cases, his epistemic inferior.

This doesn't in the least change the fact that Richard Fangrad has a god-given duty to come to terms with the Catholic sense of the Bible, to believe Seven Sacraments, to believe the Eucharist is a Sacrifice and includes the Real Presence, to believe we have free will and God's election will not simply override any use we make of it, unless he believes this last point already and already came to terms with it, to believe there is a magisterium instituted by Christ, which gained assistance from the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Day, and that the consensus over past representatives of this magisterium, Popes and Bishops, or of people approved by it (St. Ephrem the Syrian was a Deacon, St. Justin Martyr a layman) in their capacity as writers is obliging as to how we interpret Scripture.

I do not therefore need to consider me as epistemic inferior to a Catholic priest. He is obliged to know Theology, but I have a right to learn it if interested, which was my case, and sometimes, in debates on Theology, it can be a layman who rebukes a priest, like the first one to call out "heresy" when Nestorius denied Theotokos, was precisely a layman in his Cathedral of Hagia Sophia where he was at the time Ecumenic Patriarch or rather Patriarch (the title "Ecumenic Patriarch" is later). My learning from interest may be superior to his learning from duty. Provided obviously I looked into the sources recommended by the Catholic Church, this not being "Bible alone" but Bible, Fathers, Scholastics and of course also infallible decrees by the Magisterium.

Hier matin

  • 1) l'homme est supérieur aux animaux irrationnels à cause de son âme spirituel;
  • 2) le corps de la première femme vient du corps du premier homme;

Well known, too, are the decrees of the Biblical Commission issued in 1909 on the interpretation of the Book of Genesis. One of these decrees merits particular attention here, namely the answer of the Commission to the question whether the literal historical meaning of the text of Genesis on the special creation of man, the formation of the first woman from the first man, and the unity of the human race can be called into doubt. The Commission answers in the negative.

Et j'ai cité ma source:

The Position of Modern Theology on the Evolution of Man
Albert L. Schlitzer | Volume 8, Number 2, 1952 / Laval théologique et philosophique
https://www.erudit.org/en/journals/ltp/1952-v8-n2-ltp0941/1020786ar.pdf

Flat Earth? The Bible And Science Say No!

"Bible, history, science, all wrapped together"

So do I claim for me.

"it's not driven by fear"

Mine neither.

"it's not driven by conspiracy theories"

CMI's attitude to me starts looking as if it were. Mine to "Heliocentrism" / Standard modern cosmology isn't. I'm open to conspiracies being real, more than CMI, but I am no more eager to find a conspiracy than to find one isn't required.

"it's not driven by distrust in authority"

This is a fairly mean psychological summing up of adversarial positions. The CMI certainly do show distrust in authorities from Evolution paradigm, as Habermehl showed when discussing my trust in Svante Pääbos finds about Neanderthal genome. But they would not consider the Evolution paradigm constitutes real authority any more than Flat Earthism does, neither do I, I simply extend this to Geocentrism vs Heliocentrism.

There is a vast difference between distrusting "authority" as a category (something I haven't found around Flat Earthers, Rob Skiba for instance is very happy to take Yeshivoth and book of Jasher as authorities, along with Book of Jubilees and Book of Henoch) and distrusting commonly contemporarily proposed authorities. This difference is lost on people who make psychology their key to the neighbours' consciences, their god of divination.

I am very sorry that a man should ever utter the words "distrust in authority" as if a real phenomenon, a real key to someone else's behaviour. I consider that a kind of worship of Apollo Delphicus. I hold on the authority of Sophocles that Apollo Delphicus ruined the lives of Laios, Iocaste, Oedipus. How did he do that? By self fulfilling prophecies. In the case which Sophocles dealt with, prophecies the victims needed to believe in order for the prophecies to be fulfilled. But there are also other self fulfilling prophecies, which surroundings believe and then fulfill (at least to their own satisfaction) about the victims, and psychology is expert at that evil.

Note, I am not saying Robert Carter is possessed or needs St Paul to drive out a Pythonic spirit, but he is kind of believing doctrines of evil spirits, by using that kind of vocabulary.

However, I claim also to deal with contemporary authorities in a double way. For their directly observed facts, I rely on them. For conclusions, I check whether the logic holds. This is very basic to Young Earth Creationism, which Robert Carter claims to represent by being part of CMI. When you deal with carbon dates, other dates, choice of dates for Mungo man or Mungo woman, you accept (as do I) how much carbon 14 has been measured. Then you take the discrepancy with thermoluminiscence to say both methods are basically equally worthless. I accept the carbon 14 content too, and I dismuss thermoluminiscence as inadequately calibrated by C14, while taking the C14 as indication on how much C14:C12 ratio had risen ... placing Mungo woman in the carbon dates corresponding to Noah's lifespan after Deluge, the descent from Ark to his death 350 years later. Neither of us relies on the authority of Bowler and Thorne, as to how old Mungo man and Mungo woman actually are. Is this "distrust of authority"? Not if the claimed authority of Bowler and Thorne is nil, as to conclusions, since these do not follow from what they did observe. Which Tas Walker (and Robert Carter) would surely admit.

[It is instead driven by] "trust in the Creator, who created a world that we can understand"

Same as I claim for myself as a Geocentric.

If Universe revolves each day around Earth, as we observe up to fix stars, something or someone has to keep it going. If the result is, day and night, seasons, provide better conditions for life than for instance Sun shining from same angle all the time, that something is a someone, who is benevolent.

St. Thomas used this as prima and quinta via (Summa Theologica, I, Q2, A3) for proving God. Riccioli, considering each heavenly body is moving on its own, moved by an angel, and that angel moving it Westward, could not use this for God. So, he preferred Pascal's or Descartes' arguments for God. To St. Thomas God was doing the Westward move each day, angels were doing smaller and slower moves for idividual celestial bodies Eastward under fix stars, in solid orbits transmitting the movement of primum mobile inward toward earth, towards its monsoons and oceanic currents, also going West. To me, solid orbits are out, but an aether, not all that there is of it, but outside Earth surface and inside God's Heaven (Empyrean Heaven) is primum mobile and also firmament. Again, God moving all of it Westward, angels moving individual celestial bodies either generally Eastward (Moon plus "Solar system objects") in slower periods, or moving even stars - fix stars (and exoplanets) - in smaller orbits, observed as "aberration" and "parallax" and "proper movement".

Whichever model is chosen (and I think solid orbits are solidly ruled out by an observation by Tycho Brahe) the Westward movement of Sun, Moon, Stars eac day and night show forth one First Mover. In Geocentrism, existence of God is easy to understand from behaviour of visible creation.

Psalm 18:[1] Unto the end. A psalm for David. [2] The heavens shew forth the glory of God, and the firmament declareth the work of his hands. [3] Day to day uttereth speech, and night to night sheweth knowledge.

Romans 1:[18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice: [19] Because that which is known of God is manifest in them.

Carter starts laying out his principles, here I have three:

1) The universe behaves in a consistent, logic and discoverable way - because of the nature of God.

Granted on my part.

"That thought is what drove the scientific revolution."

In fact, you find it as much in St. Thomas and in Riccioli (Geocentrics) as in Galileo Galilei (Heliocentric). The Scientific Revolution implies there were Scientific Revolutionaries, I claim these plagiarised this thought from the previous Scholastic (roughly Platonic-Aristotelic) establishment, and that it was better integrated in the Scientific Ancien Régime, Scholasticism. It sippered more and more out from the net results of the Scientific Revolution.

"Modern Science was founded by that kind of philosophical ideas"

As in Medieval Science wasn't? As in that was crucial for departure from Scholasticism? I think not.

"Johann Kepler"

You know that his model of "Solar System" (our usage) / Universe (his usage) is now entenable? The five Platonic bodies are not found as solid spheres around the Sun. His view of some orbit - I think Mercury's - was contradicted by observations accounted for by Einstein.

"thinking God's thoughts after Him"

What any Christian thinker hopes to be doing. Kepler claiming it for himself, in astronomy, St. Thomas Aquinas receiving that label in an apparition of Christ telling him "thou hast spoken the truth about my sacrament".

St. Thomas as basing himself on the Gospel and mention in Corinthians was on a more solid ground than a man "reading the book of nature".

"Astronomy : Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Herschel, Maunder"

I note that not just Ptolemy (a pagan) but also Tycho Brahe and Riccioli are omitted.

I want to have noted that Copernicus' argument could in modern terms be resumed as "epicycles would look like spirograph patterns, and these are ugly things because I don't know how to describe them, and God couldn't make something ugly" - now get hold of a spirograph, draw the spirograph patterns Copernicus had no means to draw, and look carefully if you think they are ugly.

I think they aren't. I think they are very decorative. Very worthy of God's sense of beauty.

I also note, Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler were all of them refuted by Geocentrics.

Herschel and presumably Maunder (of whom I here read for the first time) were ignoring Geocentrics. There is no single man enumerated who refuted or is supposed to have refuted Geocentrism.

22:01 "can Satan build something so sophisticated it can actually explain how things work"

Note, the thing was not about "things working" but about maths working.

Satan can definitely use the leeway given him by God. There may be lies Satan would like to spread for some reason, but can't. There are other lies which God has given him some leeway to argue, deceptively.

A simple inversion of the truth (like Dan Brown's expressions via Robert Langdon about Catholicism) is a fairly old tactic.

And "reverse engineering so the mathematics work" - well, is Satan by his nature angelic, above us (except for grace of regeneration in some of us)? Or is Satan a five year old child?

I'd say, Satan clearly has sufficient cleverness to make a lie work. Not ultimately, not from all angles, but from one angle, say maths, and until you look at another angle, like "wait a minute, that Heliocentrism works doesn't mean it's the only thing that works".

2) answers to Carter's answer to a FB flat earther:

God gave both us and Satan the ability to think.

Dominion mandate or fruit of tree of knowledge are two different theological options about why we like exploring, and also dominion mandate does not extend to Sun, Moon and Stars. Therefore, it is no guarantee for astronomocal conclusions.

God created this world, but did so in the view of already created angels, including Satan.

Satan can deceive people into believing a radically (not completely from all angles) untrue thing against an obvious reality, making people forget the obvious, like Earth looks non-moving, heavens look like moving Westward each day.

The Hindoo teaching Earth is flat is clearly very nearly plausible. The Eratosthenes argument can be accounted for by Earth being an incompletely spheric largely flat form, like a chapati pan. The Eclipse argument, they account for by Raku coming out sometimes to hide Sun, sometimes to hide Moon, but its usually hidden below the rim of the earth.

And the "you find Pillars of Hercules beyond the Ganges" is false, as was found out since Aristotle, while the similar but factually correct argument was discovered by Magellan. And you know how Hindoos feel about Portuguese? If not, take a look at how Goa was annectated to India. Yes, basically like Rob Skiba feels about Vatican and Spaniards.

No Christian scholar with maybe two minor examples (Lactantius would be one of them) taught the earth was flat. By contrast, lots taught a spheric earth was centre of the universe.

Satan cannot deceive millions of people about two plus two making four. But the math involved in Heliocentrism is very much less conclusive. And the geometry involved in Globe Earth is conclusive enough to me, but clearly less simple than two plus two making four. When Rob Skiba argued a skyscraper in Chicago should not have been able to be seen from across Lake Michigan, I had to look up how to do the real formula for how far up an object needs to be from Earth surface to be seen from what distance from an observer so far up. On the presumption - tacitly used by Skiba, though he didn't detect it - that observer was holding eyes and camera where we normally have the feet and the ground level at level of Lake Michigan's surface or very few centimetres higher, his argument holds. The building could not have been seen under those circumstances. And - which is good to remember when dealing with Heliocentric arguments too - he did not state those very extreme circumstances were the ones involved.

3) Idiocentric model as illustrated by Robert Carter is usually overcome very early in childhood and not even entertained often back then.

It is not something which can be shown to be the core of Geocentrism.

Robert Carter can easily refute the idiocentric model proper, by appealing to all who did not feel themselves spin about Robert Carter but who saw him spin around himself.

The Geocentric model was in fact "debunked" by a similar appeal - to absentees. Yes, we on Earth see the Earth as centre, but someone living on Jupiter or Mars would see Jupiter or Mars as centre and someone living on a planet around Sirius or around Vega would see that planet revolving around Sirius or around Vega as centre.

Ooops .... Heliocentric philosophy is really ETs? YES.

Between Kepler and Herschel, Carter omitted the real propagandists for Heliocentrism. Newton's physics would not be adequate unless omitting God and angels as actual movers. It contributed, but wasn't all. When Euler explained "Heliocentrism in our solar system" to one Prussian princess, he argued very little about Newton, though some, but at least as much if not more about ... the people God created on planets like Jupiter, Mars, exo-planets (not yet observed in his time, by the way). The people who were men with bodies like us but did not descend from Adam and Eve.

Anyone knowing German, check my screen shots from online version of his writings to her, as I published them here:

AUF DEUTSCH (AUF ANTIMODERNISM UND SPÄTER) : Euler als "Astronom"
http://aufdeutschaufantimodernism.blogspot.com/2017/12/euler-als-astronom.html

Specifically this one:

Each fix star seems to be meant to give light and warmth to a number of bodies similar to our Earth and which also without doubt are inhabited ....

Between Kepler and Herschel, you have proto-UFOlogy.

By the way, I think there was a certain Gary Bates who argued UFOlogy was part of a Satanic end times deception?

I'll end for here now.

CMI on Church Fathers and Geocentrism or Geostasis

I had earlier given an answer to CMI's "refuting absolute geocentrism".*

It was mainly an answer on the scientific points. Here is an answer to the Patristic point, which they began to state like this:

The Church Fathers : However, it is not quite fair for modern geocentrists to quote the early Church Fathers in support. The few Church Fathers who discussed the issue were geocentrists. However, it is not quite fair for modern geocentrists to quote the early Church Fathers in support.

The following four reasons will be given separately and answered each in turn:

CMI
First,
all the pagans of their day also supported geocentrism, so the Church Fathers just reflected common sense, common contemporary scientific ideas, or common use of language. They were hardly making a principled theological opposition to geokineticism.

HGL
All the Pagans, Jews and Church Fathers. Lower down, CMI discusses whether Geokinetism or Heliocentrism was reflecting Pagan errors.

Copernicus had one passing mention of Hermes among other ancient writings: ... If this is a problem, then what about the Apostle Paul quoting pagan poets with approval: Aratus (Acts 17:28), Menander (1 Corinthians 15:33), and Epimenides (Titus 1:12)?

In other words, just agreeing with a Pagan who on some theoogically important point is in error, does not make you in error, if what you are agreeing with is different from a Pagan theological error. We need to disagree with Uranus born from Gaea, we do not need to disagree with Ulysses coming home to Penelope.

Reflecting common sense is not a bad thing.

According to Council of Trent, the unanimity of Church Fathers is enough to be a theologically principled point in itself.

CMI
Second,
they were influenced by the faulty translation of the raqia’ in the available Greek and Latin translations.

HGL
Why would they be that?

Why would the Bible be inerrantly available to only Hebrews in this time?

Were all Church Fathers discussing geocentrism also discussing raqia / stereoma / firmamentum?

How many of the ones who discussed both were drawing explicit conclusions from this?

If they weren't, even if the translations stereoma and firmamentum were faulty (not granted** on my part), why would this be relevant for their geostatic views?

CMI
Third,
their geocentrism was Ptolemaic Geocentrism, while modern geocentrists actually hold the Tychonian (or Tychonic) hybrid geo-heliocentrist view (see below). Since no Church Father held this modern view, how can one quote them in support?

HGL
Ptolemaic Geocentrism is only the case for the ones who held a Greek world view, those who considered or who have been thought to consider the Earth Flat certainly preferred a Hebrew one (if not OT, at least emerging in early Talmudic times) which is incompatible with Ptolemaic Geocentrism.

Furthermore, key sentences are indeed common to both or all three systems.

Like Sun actually moving each day around Earth.

CMI
Fourth,
the first genuinely intellectual challenge to absolute geocentrism came from devout adherents to a broadly biblical world view.

HGL
Galileo was aware of how his view could conflict with certain passages in Joshua and Psalms, if only because St Robert Bellarmine pointed them out.

He had before being summoned to defend his book written to Christine of Tuscany:

Hence I think that I may reasonably conclude that whenever the Bible has occasion to speak of any physical conclusion (especially those which are very abstruse and hard to understand), the rule has been observed of avoiding confusion in the minds of the common people which would render them contumacious toward the higher mysteries. Now the Bible, merely to condescend to popular capacity, has not hesitated to obscure some very important pronouncements, attributing to God himself some qualities extremely remote from (and even contrary to) His essence. Who, then, would positively declare that this principle has been set aside, and the Bible has confined itself rigorously to the bare and restricted sense of its words, when speaking but casually of the earth, of water, of the sun, or of any other created thing? Especially in view of the fact that these things in no way concern the primary purpose of the sacred writings, which is the service of God and the salvation of souls—matters infinitely beyond the comprehension of the common people.

This being granted, I think that in discussions of physical problems we ought to begin not from the authority of scriptural passages, but from sense-experiences and necessary demonstrations; for the holy Bible and the phenomena of nature proceed alike from the divine Word, the former as the dictate of the Holy Ghost and the latter as the observant executrix of God's commands. It is necessary for the Bible, in order to be accommodated to the understanding of every man, to speak many things which appear to differ from the absolute truth so far as the bare meaning of the words is concerned. But Nature, on the other hand, is inexorable and immutable; she never transgresses the laws imposed upon her, or cares a whit whether her abstruse reasons and methods of operation are understandable to men. For that reason it appears that nothing physical which sense-experience sets before our eyes, or which necessary demonstrations prove to us, ought to be called in question (much less condemned) upon the testimony of biblical passages which may have some different meaning beneath their words. For the Bible is not chained in every expression to conditions as strict as those which govern all physical effects; nor is God any less excellently revealed in Nature's actions than in the sacred statements of the Bible. Perhaps this is what Tertullian meant by these words: “We conclude that God is known first through Nature, and then again, more particularly, by doctrine; by Nature in His works, and by doctrine in His revealed word.” (5)

So, he was a proponent of NOMa, Non-Overlapping Magisteria.

It seemed he could not defend his position without it.

CMI rightly condemns NOMa.

Also, the article does not involve any discussion of Distant Starlight problem, to which Geocentrism and less important distances is a very elementary problem solver, if available. One commenter brought it up and Robert Carter redirected him to the Chapter 5 of The Creation Answers Book, which very correctly refutes the "starlight created in transit" by reference to novas, but then tries to solve the problem by relativity.

Which is if available at all at least a very much less direct and elementary answer than smaller (not really small, except compared to God) universe and this implying one step in cosmic distance ladder being wrong, and the step in cosmic distance ladder involving parallax as distance measure by presuming heliocentrism is a fair candidate.

** Raqia is derived from raqa meaning stamp, spread out by stamping, so while one can say it refers to an expanded object, it also refers to a "hammered" one. If things are hammered to stay firmly together, "firmament" is as as good an idea as "expanse". I checked in Strong.
