Peace, and there is no peace (Ezechiel 13)?

“We expect the message of peace to be heard. That instead of creating various anti-terrorist coalitions, alienated with deep-rooted contradictions and fraught with unpredictable consequences, there would be only one such alliance,” he noted.

Metropolitan Hilarion emphasized that such coalition could not be made up only of politicians.

“Spiritual leaders and other people of good will should go into it.”

The first-ever face-to-face talk between two of the major leaders of the Christian world does not mean that the dialogue has just started, Metropolitan Hilarion stressed.

“It means the dialogue has entered a new stage of augmented intensity.”

The lights went out without so much as a flicker in the Moscow apartment shared by Andrei Barabanov, his mother and girlfriend one evening in late May four years ago. Thinking the fuse box must have blown, Barabanov's mother Tatyana unlocked the front door to step out into the corridor.

At that point, a team of eight officers of Russia's OMON riot police and a heavyset investigator stormed into their home. "It was like a scene from the movies," says Tatyana. "As if they were arresting a high-profile criminal."

Andrei Barabanov was dragged out of the apartment barefoot, then thrown into the back of a police van. An OMON officer's foot pressed his head down onto the floor. He remembers thinking to himself: "Andrei, you won't see your home for another four years." His calculation wasn't far off: It would be three years and seven months before he would return to his own bed.

His crime had been to participate in a protest rally several weeks earlier on central Moscow's Bolotnaya Ploshchad. The rally was the culmination of an anti-Kremlin protest movement that had gained momentum in late 2011 following disputed parliamentary elections. It spilled over into 2012, when Vladimir Putin secured a third term as president.

Back to Indian Express:

Putin’s short speech on Monday also warned against “unacceptable double standards that shortsightedly indulge those who are nurturing new criminal plans.”

He made no specific accusations but both the accusation of double standards and the call for a “non-bloc system of international security” echo Russia’s frequent criticism of the West and the NATO alliance.

Who do you think you are kiddin’ Mister Putin?

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING MR. HITLER
Theme Song from Dad's Army
(Jimmy Perry / Taverner)
http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/w/whodoyouthinkyouarekiddingmrhitler.shtml

Sorry, I thought the song was from back in 1930’s, when Hitler looked at Sudetenland, with perhaps more reason than Putin and Kirill are doing now.

It’s from “Dad’s army”, a TV comedy about WW-II.

At the end of which, Red Army brought freedom, even domination, to some, but abject misery and slavery to others.

That is the reason there was a NATO.

And if Putin pretends to be dreaming of a world without military blocks, perhaps he is preferring BRICS?

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

What’s the difference between blocks and bricks? Building is done with either. But Putin likes the one and detests the other. For some reason. Or other.

Improving a Wickipeejan Article on Genesis Interpretation

Here is a paragraph from wikipedia (English wikipedia, or "wickipeejuh" as I call it to distinguish it from "la wikipédie", "la biquipedia", "die Wikipädie"), newest edition:

There had always been a sophisticated tradition dating back to at least St Augustine of Hippo (354–430), with interpretations that some have considered "plainly at variance with what are commonly perceived in evangelicalism as traditional views of Genesis." Some have even erected it to "a critical tradition"[25] which in fact it was not. The Jewish tradition has also maintained a critical thread in its approach to biblical primeval history. The influential medieval philosopher Maimonides maintained a skeptical ambiguity towards creation ex nihilo (which is not said in Genesis, but in Maccabees II, which he did not consider as canonical) and perhaps considered the stories about Adam more as "philosophical anthropology, rather than as historical stories whose protagonist is the 'first man'"[26]though it is possible he simply used the anthropological implications more often than he refrred to the historical facts. Greek philosophers Aristotle,[27] Critolaus[28] and Proclus[29] held that the world was eternal. This may have influenced Maimonides, while St Thomas Aquinas considered this an opinion Aristotle was wrong about. These philosophers being Pagans of course implies they were not themselves engaged in interpreting Genesis, they were only sth which some interpreters (Christian or Jewish) took note of and had to think about.

Reference 25 is to a paper by an Earth Scientist, someone really not qualified to speak about exegetic traditions by his training, however qualified he might be from private studies. As an Old Earth believer, a believer in the methods he uses as he uses them, and presumably a Christian of a sort, he has a bias to deny that Genesis was interpreted as literal truth by the Church Fathers. Here is his article:

THE CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE OF AUGUSTINE'S VIEW OF CREATION
Davis A. Young
Dept. of Geology, Geography & Environmental Studies
Calvin College Grand Rapids, Ml 49506
http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/1988/PSCF3-88Young.html

I ask you to note the Department. Not Theology. Not Latin. Geology, Geography & Environmental Studies clearly qualify as Earth Studies, not as historical, exegetical, Classical, Medieval, or any other way Patristic studies.

By the way, if anyone wants to make a similar quip against my observations on exact sciences, I'll offer it. If I am in any way qualified to speak on them, it is not by my university training, but by private studies, not as an expert, but as an outsider using logic, common sense and using what experts say (the little I know of it) in a critical and creative way. Precisely like Davis Young claims St Augustine does with Holy Writte, ecept that I will not consider what experts say as being tantamount to Holy Writte.

The influential medieval philosopher Maimonides maintained a skeptical ambiguity towards creation ex nihilo (which is not said in Genesis, but in Maccabees II, which he did not consider as canonical) ...

The influential medieval philosopher Maimonides maintained a skeptical ambiguity towards creation ex nihilo ...

The impression is given (intentionally or not) that Maimonides had found "creatio ex nihilo" in Genesis and been sceptic about it.

The fact is that the concept is not in the text of Genesis, unless you take "beginning" as "absolute and first beginning" which is natural from context, but not grammatically obliging to someone pushing an agenda. And "creatio ex nihilo" is not even in the New Testament, since St Paul does not say God "created from nothing" but that God "created not from visible things". It is in the mother's admonition to future Maccabee martyrs, and in II Maccabees, a book which Maimonides did not find in Masoretic or close to Masoretic Tenach/Tanakh, but which Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox find in our versions of Old Testament. So, Maimonides being ambiguous about "creatio ex nihilo" does not make him a critical and creative exegete of Genesis. It makes him a non-Catholic and a non-Easter Orthodox Christian, etc for Christian confessions admitting II Maccabees as a canonical book inspired by God. Which we knew anyway that he was, since he was a Jew.

... and perhaps considered the stories about Adam more as "philosophical anthropology, rather than as historical stories whose protagonist is the 'first man'"[26] though it is possible he simply used the anthropological implications more often than he referred to the historical facts.

... and considered the stories about Adam more as "philosophical anthropology, rather than as historical stories whose protagonist is the 'first man'"[26].

Reference 26 is Klein-Braslavy, Sara (1986). "The Creation of the world and Maimonides' interpretation of Gen. i–v". In Pines, S.; Yovel, Y. Maimonides and Philosophy (International Archives of the History of Ideas / Archives internationales d'histoire des idées). Berlin: Springer. pp. 65–78.

I suppose she was the kind of progressive Jew who would jump on an occasion of considering "Rambam" (Ra[bbi]M[oses]B[en](a)M[aimon]) as the liberal theologian she is herself.

"Considering x more as y than as z" can either refer to some kind of statement by the one said to do so, "I consider x more as y than as z", or to a study of the texts of someone claimed to have considered so, and then it means when Sara studied Maimonides or any other modern scholar studied any other old writer (who was more scholarly than moderns) she or he found in the old writer x more often used as y than they found x used as z.

In other words, I added "though it is possible he simply used the anthropological implications more often than he referred to the historical facts" because of this suspicion.

Greek philosophers Aristotle,[27] Critolaus[28] and Proclus[29] held that the world was eternal.

I find no reason to double check the references for the Greek philosophers. For Aristotle I already knew this from reading St Thomas Aquinas. I have no distrust for those who claim Critolaus and Proclus stated same or similar opinion.

I added what I added that readers might not in the future unawares come to believe that Aristotle held any kind of opinion about the text of Genesis or its interprettation. He was simply outside the debate, though he, like later Hutton and Darwin, have come to influence those who are in it. In different ways.

This is the kind of awareness with which I study my contemporaries. I have far more trust in St Thomas Aquinas, Maimonides and Aristotle coming to the question with a scholarly attitude, than I have for Davis A. Young or Sara Klein-Braslavy doing so. Modern Academia has a spirit of scepticism against Bible and naiveté in scholarship contradicting it, which shows in some directly sloppy scholarship about how St Augustine or Maimonides approached the question.

Now, as for Sara, she might later on in the article have added the qualifications I am asking for, or she may not. But for Davis A. Young, I know that type, and that type is one reason I prefer judges of Galileo over Modern Protestants.

I prefer honest though mistaken literalism (at the time I made the preference I still considered Geocentrism to be probably mistaken) over a non-literalism which, however seemingly honest in its philosophical assumptions and theological assumptions (not that I found much honesty even there) is clearly slipshod and dishonest about older scholars with some claim to canonicity of exegesis (like St Augustine for Christians or Maimonides for Jews), because otherwise they do not have the precedence in tradition which more literalminded interpreters very rightly claim to have.

Was Not Doing My Best Either - Should have Referred to Tolkien

1) Correspondence of Hans Georg Lundahl : With Tom Trinko on Physics of Geocentrism, First Rounds, 2) With Tom Trinko again, Second rounds, 3) Tom Trinko, Third Rounds, Broadening Discussion on Aether, 4) New blog on the kid : Was Not Doing My Best Either - Should have Referred to Tolkien, 5) Diagrams for Geostationary Satellites (Either Cosmology), 6) Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere : ... on Heliocentrism and Positive Claims Demanding Positive Evidence

As Tom Trinko asked me to post such an admission on the blog with our discussion, I must on my part admit I was tired and irritated and forgot to or even neglected adding an explanation which would have helped him, perhaps.

But before going into it, I will ask you first to consider these two statements by him:

His Quote from St Augustine, in context (with my highlights):
By the way Augustine clearly condemns Sungennis's misuse of the Bible—and endorsements by saints for geocentrism— when Augustine says:

" Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he hold to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn. The shame is not so much that an ignorant individual is derided, but that people outside the household of faith think our sacred writers held such opinions, and, to the great loss of those for whose salvation we toil, the writers of our Scripture are criticized and rejected as unlearned men. If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions about our books, how are they going to believe those books in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the hope of eternal life, and the kingdom of heaven, when they think their pages are full of falsehoods and on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason? Reckless and incompetent expounders of Holy Scripture bring untold trouble and sorrow on their wiser brethren when they are caught in one of their mischievous false opinions and are taken to task by those who are not bound by the authority of our sacred books. For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements, they will try to call upon Holy Scripture for proof and even recite from memory many passages which they think support their position, although they understand neither what they say nor the things about which they make assertion. [1 Timothy 1.7]Augustine of Hippo, The Literal Meaning of Genesis, Vol 2

His admission:
I Tom Trinko have not really been spending too much effort refuting Hans for the simple reason that life is too short to spend the time necessary to refute every point raised by someone who knows nothing of what they are talking about.

As such I apologize for not having spent the time to explain in detail why Hans is wrong.

So, was it hard or easy for him to prove me wrong according to what, along with even non-Christians, he knows, and that from experience? The issue he took a stand on and did not convince me in was geostationary satellites.

Obviously it is not like proving a Biblical or would be Biblical flat earthist* wrong by appealing to journeys made by the thousands. It is not as if denial of thousands of calculations based on Heliocentric assumptions were the same thing as thousands of journeys taken together proving the Round Earth geography even without assumptions. And here it shows. When Tom Trinko cannot prove his point, he thinks life is too short for him to get into detail and he resorts to making assumptions about who of us who is ignorant - and exaggerated such.

But this does not mean I have a right finally to omit my improvment of the discussion, though it comes, for reasons of fatigue and irritation, after the discussion is already over.

Here it is.

I am not sure Tom Trinko has read Lord of the Rings. I have.

At the near end there is a scene in which Elrond and Gandalf and Sam and Frodo go off in ships, in the Grey Havens. At a certain point, the "bent road" of earth's "now" round surface (here: of water, of the sea, of the Atlantic) starts sinking below the ships, and the ships go on straight forward.

I do not think this scene happened. But it is an interesting model - like so much else in fiction, when it is worth reading.

Supposing it had happened, restating it in terms of physics would imply that the ships were unaffected by earth's gravity.** Not unaffected by gravity directly and therefore light, therefore indirectly affected by the gravity as heavier air pushed them up, since air was affected by gravity, no, rather unaffected by gravity either way. Meaning the speed westward they took while sailing was the vector - in Newtonian terms - of their trajectory after leaving the curved water surface behind too.

This means their trajectory is a great model for any trajectory of any object getting either due east or due west without gravity.

But this in its turn means that such a vector by the fact of being straight east or straight west is obliquely up, in the tangential way. And this in its turn means that this is the direct effect of the inertial vector of a satellite too, as long as you do not mix in gravity.

This means, that just as for the ships to have, in Tolkien's fiction, stayed on the bent road of the real surface of the sea, they would have needed gravity, so also, for a satellite to orbit anywhere, rather than take off tangentially, it needs gravity. This means that gravity is involved when satellite stays same height, since the eastward vector is involved in a potentially tangential raising of its height.

I might be adding a scan of this, showing a comparison where satellite would be going if obeying only eastward vector and where it actually goes, obeying also gravity. I have already drawn it.

And this remains true when the daily turning of whatever turns daily geographically cancels the orbital angle. For this I have not yet drawn any diagram. Whether it is thus geographically cancelled because the locations on earth are turning eastward same speed (Heliocentric model) or the aether which is turning westward same speed (Geocentric model as I take it along with aether) - this cancelling of motion considered in relation to localities is another matter yet.

This means that the real discussion that is worthwhile is whether aether can conceivably be non-vectorial in its movement, and yet cause atoms or agglomerations of such moving with aether to be vectorial in their movements along with the aether.

That aether needs be non-vectorial is, since if aether simply was a westward vector at any point, though turning by its attachment to earth, the westward vector of the aether and the eastward vector of the satellite would be cancelling, and gravity would be only relevant vector left, thus pulling geostationary satellite down. But if aether is non-vectorial, its movement is cancelling the local movement of the satellite as relative to earth, but at same time the satellite is really moving eastward through the aether, just as the aether is moving westward with it, so that the vectors have a due result of same height and real orbit, namely through aether.

On the other hand, why one might think aether would be vectorial to a Geocentric believing it, when aether turns westward, so do equatorials winds and oceanic currents.

This Tom Trinko refused to discuss. Life is short and I known really nothing about the universe and so on. Which does not dispense me from making reflections about it.

I would say that it is possible the uppermost atoms and molecules moving in the aether and with the aether westward do so without being vectorial either in themselves or in relation to the aether. But should an atom or molecule under it - directly, as it is not the case, or really indirectly, as is the case - attached to earth collide with its westward movement, the atom or molecule or whatever other body it may be, would immediately be vectorial in relation to the less moving, more earth attached of the two bodies. And the fact that there are infinitesimal intermediates between uppermost waters in the universe and the surface of earth which is attached to a non-moving and non-turning centre, does not very much interefere with the principle, only modify it in detail.

For we do know that winds of passage and equatorial streams in the Oceans are really vectorial. Even if the turning of the aether that causes their turning is not. But this problem, to Tom Trinko was uninteresting detail compared to the conception that an eastward vector would not be tangential and therefore would not be an upward vector.

And even this was not interesting enough to him to defend in detail against my presumably dishonest reasonings (and therefore normally easily exposed reasonings) about vectors being tangential when they are horizontal.

*I think "Biblical" means either denying the modern geography as well as cosmography or accepting a round earth with the geography: I can as round-earthist point to the four corners, not forming a flat, but a so called non-Euclidian rectangle, whereas the most up to date maps of flat earth society with North Pole in Centre and South Polehaving become a rim seem more three cornered than four cornered to me, and thus un-Biblical.

** Tolkien's choice of the words "bent road" for the trajectories normally affected by gravity and straight road for the one not so affected, may imply he was thinking in terms of an Einsteinian model of gravitation, where gravity bends (or curves) space.

  • She is in stable condition, but was 'a millimeter from death' after a stab wound nearly cut a major artery

When is it rational to conclude one is facing a conspiracy?

1) T' Ignore or Not Ignore?, 2) When is it rational to conclude one is facing a conspiracy?

For one thing, it is NOT rational if it is one's main idea, if everything else circles around it:

The madman's explanation of a thing is always complete, and often in a purely rational sense satisfactory. Or, to speak more strictly, the insane explanation, if not conclusive, is at least unanswerable; this may be observed specially in the two or three commonest kinds of madness. If a man says (for instance) that men have a conspiracy against him, you cannot dispute it except by saying that all the men deny that they are conspirators; which is exactly what conspirators would do. His explanation covers the facts as much as yours. ... Nevertheless he is wrong. But if we attempt to trace his error in exact terms, we shall not find it quite so easy as we had supposed. Perhaps the nearest we can get to expressing it is to say this: that his mind moves in a perfect but narrow circle. A small circle is quite as infinite as a large circle; but, though it is quite as infinite, it is not so large.

G K Chesterton, Orthodoxy, chapter 2
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Orthodoxy/Chapter_2

In that light, my idea that I am object of a conspiracy is not obviously mad. I have other ideas, they interest me more. I have ideas about the Universe and about God, its Creator and Upholder and Lord and Lawgiver, which are more interesting. To me, that is. To someone trying to stamp me as a madman, obviously the idea of me being object of a conspiracy is MORE interesting, as lending itself more easily to some of his standard ideas about madmen.

And it is also NOT rational if:

  • A) I have given no good subjective reason to anyone to conspire against me;
  • and B) I have not been meeting any kind of phenomena which tend to be easier to explain with a conspiracy against me (or against a category I belong to or am deemed to belong to) than otherwise.

To A, there are two criteria:

  • 1) I must be notable enough,

Now, as to the first, I pretend to be a writer (of my blogs) and to be read. I will add, my pretence is pretty realistic.

As to the second, I have been heavily offensive to psychiatrists and to Evolution believers and to Heliocentrics. And to Catholics who would compromise with these.

Now, as to criterium B, I have lost teeth while not getting my music played, while not getting my essays printed. Not only that, but I have been pretty actively seeking for amateurs willing to take a chance, and I have guessed that those initially encouraging me but then backing out have been discouraged by older people in their surroundings.

But that taken by itself alone could be because I was a bungler - if it were not for stats like those above.

I have also found that when I have written things that could be offensive to some I have seen certain men, otherwise very marginal in my life, make frowns when meeting me which otherwise they do not.

I have also found that when I have written thing that could offend I have found alms I was asking for (and I am asking for alms while not getting a living off my writing) have become scarce.

I have also found periods during which more than one man would approach me the same 24 hours to be bothersome. Taking chances if seated opposite me in a library with computers to push my foot soles. Taking chances if seeing me sleeping at night to wake me up even if NOT concerned with the building I was squatting in for the night. Being extra cruel when waking me up IF concerned with the building I was squatting in for the other night. Exacting a full search through my bag about metal objects if security guard of a library where I access computers. If you had seen the bag how full it is, you would know it was deterring. And a few more, including pretty clear cases of abuse of admin privileges, as to what happens on my computer screen. Plus I have found more money in my pocket when waking up than I had counted when going to sleep on two occasions, which makes me wonder if I received it under hypnosis, despite knowing no hypnotist.

Plus all the times I have been with more or less indirect approach but sometimes pretty obviously confronted with what could have very well been meant as arguments against what either was and usually is my position or was or is probably taken for it. Yes, I think criterium B is pretty well fulfilled too.

Catholic and Enjoying It : The Mark of the Crackpot
January 28, 2014 By Mark Shea
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/markshea/2014/01/the-mark-of-the-crackpot.html

This is where I found the quote to the wikisource edition of Orthodoxy. However, Chesterton's and Mark Shea's examples of what constitutes crackpot-single-ideas are pretty different.

I think of this as I behold the spectacle of the discernment-free herd of Independent Thinkers who, getting their marching orders from Church Militant TV and obeying to the letter, are now defending the ”The Principle” (the rock solid new film proving geocentrism beyond the shadow of a doubt and inaugurating a Revolution in our understanding of cosmology). To a man, they are dutifully reciting the rhetoric crackpots always recite when normal people point out that they are crackpots. It goes like this:

  • Have you *read* Mein Kampf? Then how can you possibly say that it’s the work of a monster? How do you know it’s not Jews controlling the media responsible for the bad reviews it gets?
  • Have you read the latest research proving that Lizard Creatures control the Vatican? Then how can you know that the people dismissing this theory are not, in fact, Lizard Creatures?
  • Have you read the latest research showing that International Jewish bankers created Nazism as a prelude to conquest of the land of Palestine? Then how do you know that my gratuitous assertion of this fact in your combox just now is false?
  • Have you read the science in support of the fact that the universe circles a non-rotational earth at hyper-light speeds every 24 hours?
  • I have to say that I am absolutely shocked at the way Professional Catholics like you simply dismiss people who have been talking about nothing but these matters for years and years. Who made you the arbiter of what you decide is “crazy” and don’t spend your time on? You have to spend all your time researching every “crazy” thing so-called “lunatics” want to discuss or we will call you a coward–and a Lizard Creature who may well have Jewish blood. Can you prove you aren’t? Ha! That’s just what a Jewish Lizard Creature would try to do!

First of all, three of the items were concerned with stamping any and every kind of "Antisemitism" (perceived or real) as madness:

  • Have you read Mein Kampf? Then how can you possibly say that it’s the work of a monster? How do you know it’s not Jews controlling the media responsible for the bad reviews it gets?
  • Have you read the latest research showing that International Jewish bankers created Nazism as a prelude to conquest of the land of Palestine? Then how do you know that my gratuitous assertion of this fact in your combox just now is false?
  • I have to say that I am absolutely shocked at the way Professional Catholics like you simply dismiss people who have been talking about nothing but these matters for years and years. Who made you the arbiter of what you decide is “crazy” and don’t spend your time on? You have to spend all your time researching every “crazy” thing so-called “lunatics” want to discuss or we will call you a coward–and a Lizard Creature who may well have Jewish blood. Can you prove you aren’t? Ha! That’s just what a Jewish Lizard Creature would try to do!

Two of them with Lizard Creatures, alias David Icke's little hobby horse:

  • Have you read the latest research proving that Lizard Creatures control the Vatican? Then how can you know that the people dismissing this theory are not, in fact, Lizard Creatures?
  • I have to say that I am absolutely shocked at the way Professional Catholics like you simply dismiss people who have been talking about nothing but these matters for years and years. Who made you the arbiter of what you decide is “crazy” and don’t spend your time on? You have to spend all your time researching every “crazy” thing so-called “lunatics” want to discuss or we will call you a coward–and a Lizard Creature who may well have Jewish blood. Can you prove you aren’t? Ha! That’s just what a Jewish Lizard Creature would try to do!

Note, I am not saying David Icke is a lunatic. I suppose he is wrong on this one, though and I am saying this hobby horse of his is convenient to stamp other researchers as lunatics. In this case both references to Icke were outside his own immediate domain and well into being used as a parody of Sedevacantism and of Antisemitism.

Maybe Mark Shea has some connexions with a Jewish madman who is all the time preoccupied with the kind of "madmen" who would conspire to persecute Jews again, and seeing such where really there is none such.

I might consider Mein Kampf as having good things to say on Economics. I take this on the word of a historian who - after reading it - claimed the Economic bit of it is pretty close to Rerum Novarum. That does not equal finding Hitler's solutions about Jews all that good or even wanting to read the work myself. But it does equal me not budging from economic ideals of Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno just because they happen to coincide with those of Mein Kampf. It also equals that Politicians trying to apply it, including Fascist such, excepting not the allies of Hitler simply because they were allies (come on, Hitler was Finland's ally against Stalin!), but excepting only such as embraced Totalitarian, Eugenic, Racialist solutions or persecution of ethnical groups. This rules out from the pretty broad "Fascist" spectrum only: Nazism, Ustashi, latter days of Mussolini (he had a better start in my opinion, especially before the Ethiopian War).

If any Jew due to this considers me a Nazi, a dupe of Mein Kampf, or anything like that, I considers him the kind of crackpot who will brood too much over who is conspiring against Jews. Even if he is not a Jewish suprematist.

The remaining one is a bit more interesting:

  • Have you read the science in support of the fact that the universe circles a non-rotational earth at hyper-light speeds every 24 hours?

Actually I am not reading so much the science in support of this fact as reading and refuting the science supposedly refuting it.

What supports it is to my mind mainly eyes an inner ears. Which in their turn are supported by the Word of God, on this issue. And which support Romans 1:20 on God being provably upholder of the Universe.

IF anything can effect most of the universe turning around us every 24 h at speeds exceeding the measured one of light, THEN that thing must be God. And this is the simplest proof for God's existence there is. The alternative is that Universe was created or accidentally made itself in such ways as to impede us from getting it right, not just with one sense but with two at the same time. Now, that is to my mind a prime example of the kind of crackpot philosophies G K Chesterton was setting out to discuss in his book Orthodoxy.

Now, there is another slant to this:

  • Have you read the science in support of the fact that the universe circles a non-rotational earth at hyper-light speeds every 24 hours?
  • I have to say that I am absolutely shocked at the way Professional Catholics like you simply dismiss people who have been talking about nothing but these matters for years and years. Who made you the arbiter of what you decide is “crazy” and don’t spend your time on? You have to spend all your time researching every “crazy” thing so-called “lunatics” want to discuss or we will call you a coward ...

Not quite.

If Mark Shea has not shown one bit of contempt either for Geocentrism as such nor for Geocentrics as such, then he is of course free to ignore any claim they - we - have on his time.

I wish the kind of people I consider as conspiring against me had the same kind of consideration about me and my time as now I express for Mark Shea. However, this is not the case. Mark Shea, on his side, and as distinct from them, has been not just in this one, but also at other times (I will not say many, but some occasions over the years and consistently in the same sense) expressing a very direct contempt for:

  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for ignoring conventional science;
  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for researching fringe science;
  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for not accepting Modernist compromises on authority of the Bible in passages like Joshua chapter 10;
  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for being also Antisemites;
  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for being the kind of crackpots who would be Antisemites;
  • Geocentrics as being crackpots for bothering him as much as crackpots bother him;
  • Geocentrics as being lovable benighted crackpots for believing erroneously we would consider God to be unable to have us morally in the centre of His attention unless we are also physically in the centre of the Universe.

I think that after that Geocentrics have a right to respond to him and that he has a duty to at least consider reading what has been written directly in response to his taunts. To go on taunting and to go on refusing to make a straight response is a bit cowardly. Which has NOTHING to do with any complacency even with an Icke scenario (with a David Icke scenario, that is) in which Mark Shea would have Lizard Blood in his veins (he is not very suited for that role).

I am not accusing Mark Shea of actively conspiring to keep me humiliated by ignoring me. Maybe I should, but I don't think I would. I am only saying it is a bit annoying to see him go "la la la" and shut his ears so as to fend off all "blasphemy" against a Vatican which has, unlike Leo XIII, unlike Benedict XV, accepted, really and truly and fully and religiously, after how it looks like, accepted Heliocentrism. It is especially offending when at same time I have my sleep and my social quiet disturbed by people who are less public and less amusing than Mark Shea. So, if he is not conspiring (but then again maybe he is), he is pretty much serving what seem to me to be a conspiracy, in a pretty good and effective way.

Btw, would Mark Shea agree on two things? A) Atheists do conspire to shut up evidence for God existing, not all of them all the time, but some and often? B) Conspirators do find out ways to manipulate friends or friends of friends or even friends of friends of friends without these being necessarily conspirators themselves? Because my assessment of Mark Shea is not worse than this: he is manipulated, indirectly, by Atheists and by Sadducees. Note, my assessment so far. If he goes on to taunt and at same time refuse to reply, I might conclude he is after all conspiring to marginalise Geocentrics.

Did Mr Darwin Block me from his Blog?

At least from this post:

DarwinCatholic : History's Expiration Date
http://darwincatholic.blogspot.fr/2014/03/historys-expiration-date.html

As to this debate, my last comment there still stands, but he has not answered it. He deleted a lot of other ones, including my last two on the above, but not the last one here (so far), oh, sorry, was wrong:

DarwinCatholic : Did Augustine and Aquinas Believe In A Literal Interpretation of Genesis
http://darwincatholic.blogspot.com/2014/02/did-augustine-and-aquinas-believe-in.html

Hans-Georg,

In case it's not obvious from this morning's clean sweep, I've decided not to let you use my comment boxes to air your opinions further. All further comments will be deleted.

I try to allow a wide range of opinion here, but I don't think there's any point in maintaining conversation with someone who thinks that our most recent popes are probably anti-popes, goes off on bizarre rants about "Illuminati Jew bankers", etc.

I hope that, in time, God's grace will help to bring you closer to the source of all Truth, which is Christ.

The implication that I am far from truth and far from Christ is so sweet, isn't it?

The profession - and quite in public - he makes of caring about my spiritual welfare after socially insulting me is of course not the least hypocritical, is it?

Well, I would say one of us is not a real Catholic. We are not behaving as if belonging to one and the same Church of Christ.

To me, it is clear, that he has a hysteric sacralisation of things not sacred to Catholicism going on. Modernism. Darwinism and Heliocentrism. Jewry even at its most hysterical and hateful, like when no Jew protested at Trotsky getting a plane from New York (and they think they are in a position to complain when Pius XII thought he had already exhausted diplomatic means with Hitler and preferred aiding Jews by secrecy!)

Now, here is the last comment, the one he deleted:

"Hans-Georg Lundahl said..." [Yes, I did, so you know I started the copy from its beginning, but it is not given in blockquotes, only where I quoted his last one I have blockquotes for that:]

The Church has accepted the teaching of the heliocentric model of the solar system as fact since 1820.

No, not quite.

It has accepted as licit or as not forbidden to teach it as a fact since then. But if Anfossi was forbidden to put Settel's book on the index, he was nevertheless NOT required to become a Heliocentric himself.

Pius XII, John Paul II and Benedict XVI all wrote about how not only the "old earth" understanding of natural history enjoyed great scientific support, but how the evolutionary account of biological history did as well — and how it is not incompatible with the faith.

For Pius XII I hope you are wrong.

The often missed but nevertheless very clear upshot of Humani Generis was teach the controversy - within a restrained circle.

This does not amount to preach the evolutionary version and to everyone.

If some people give an inch, some certain denizens of nether regions like to take an ell.

That is what I can make of your take on Anfossi-Settele affair.

As to JP-II and B-XVI, I might even on other grounds consider them as Antipopes.

But even supposing they were Popes: an encyclical or allocution which includes no condemnation of anything presented as heresy or error does not have canonical dignity to impose either Evolution or Heliocentrism on a Catholic believer.

Proof** Anfossi affair is old news to me, item Humani Generis, and you missed one pointed out by Dimond Brothers: In praeclara summorum.

I remain confident that just as Augustine and Aquinas adopted the cosmology which was the best science of their day (with a round earth rather than a flat one)

Has since been confirmed by Vasco da Gama, right?

they would if presented with modern science be among the great majority of educated Catholics who see no conflict between the faith and the findings of modern cosmology

Which has similarily been confirmed in a far far galaxy, long ago, by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, right? Oh, wait, would your practical confirmation of the da Gama type still be lacking? You mean George Lucas was doing fiction? *shocked, shocked, shocked!*

OK, Eratosthenes was confirmed by never being refuted all over the 1500 and even more years since St Augustine accepted him.

And Galileo has been confirmed for how long? Even not. His version of Heliocentrism is not even accepted by Heliocentrics.

and biology

Evolution requires fission of Chromosomes, right?***

not among the few cranks who insist on supporting an overly literal view of Genesis

If of St Augustine's De Genesi ad Litteram you knew not only the one quote you like to towt on all occasions against litteralists, but the very first words a man opening book one can read, by the way it is one work conspicuously lacking on the newadvent collection of patristic texts, then you might have been somewhat queezy about assuming he would reject "an overly literal reading of Genesis".

no matter what bizarre glosses on the scientific evidence are needed to make it appear to work.

Oh, appealing to the possibility of angels actually doing something on a regular basis in creation is to you a "bizarre gloss on the evidence"?

My, my, my ... *why don't they teach logic in these schools?*

So far the comment I adressed to his last one this morning, before he deleted it.

*** I was anticipating to reply to his reply on "what does that have to do with it", with my refutation of P Z Myers. No, I do not consider myself a super scientist who can be better than every scientist, I only consider PZM had some very low ebbs as a scientist where even I can beat him. Obviously, on the theory that Evolution is wrong, that is bound to happen once in a while to scientists who embrace Evolution. Here is the link to a main index post linking to the other ones:

Creation vs. Evolution : Letter to Nature on Karyotype Evolution in Mammals
http://creavsevolu.blogspot.com/2011/11/letter-to-nature-on-karyotype-evolution.html

By the way, Nature Genetics did not publish.

Update, 20-III-2014:

I posted (outside profile, which is blocked), this comment for resumption of debate: HGL said...

Oh, btw, how do you feel about Hornerstown Formation?

The Hornerstown Formation is a Paleogene or latest Mesozoic geologic formation.[1] The age of these deposits have been controversial. While most fossils are of animals types known from the earliest Cenozoic era, several fossils of otherwise exclusively Cretaceous age have been found. These include remains of the shark Squalicorax, the teleost fish Enchodus, several species of ammonite, and marine lizards referred to the genus Mosasaurus. Some of these remains show signs of severe abrasion and erosion, however, implying that they are probably re-worked from older deposits. Most of these fossils are restricted to the lowest point in the formation, one rich in fossils and known as the Main Fossiliferous Layer, or MFL. Other explanations for the out-of-place fossils in the MFL is that they represent a time-averaged assemblage that built up and remained unburied during a time of low sediment deposition, or that they were stirred up from deeper in the sediment and deposited together during a tsunami.[2]

Does very much NOT sound as if the Cretaceous beasts had been found at a deeper level than the Palaeogene ones.

Because in that case they would not be groping for explanations like that.

Unless of course those words were like a trap for me to see if I would fall for it. I mean, on wikipedia that is technically possible and some people agreeing with you would have a motive.

Just another little fossil find, which I do not think is supporting your story. You can of course say "gotcha, were you stupid enough to believe a wiki" ....

Wonder if he deletes or answers .../HGL

Are Trads and Evolutionists the Same Confession?

Dr John Dickson* quoted C. S. Lewis:

Despite the seriousness of my criticisms, in closing I want to stress that Evangelical Six-Day-Creationists and Evangelical Non-Six-Day-Creationists must not demonize each other. Firm debate is healthy; ghettoization and grandstanding, from either side, are not. I love what C. S. Lewis wrote about Christian disagreement in his masterpiece Mere Christianity. Comparing true Christendom to a great house with many rooms, he pleads:

When you have reached your own room, be kind to those who have chosen different doors and to those who are still in the hall. If they are wrong they need your prayers all the more; and if they are your enemies, then you are under orders to pray for them. That is one of the rules common to the whole house.

Dr John Dickson is Founding Director of the Centre for Public Christianity (www.publicchristianity.org). He is a Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University, and a lecturer in the Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney.

Now, one thing is that although I admire C. S. Lewis, I do not always agree with what he wrote while alive. One can piously hope that Belloc is right and he found some Catholic soul spending his purgatory catechising non-Catholics who were somehow paradoxically saved before they get to Heaven.

But there is more here.

It is not just that C. S. Lewis is here voicing a "branch theory" which Pope Pius XI (whom CSL nevertheless thought not a bad guy, as can be seen from his hope he would influence Franco for the better) had condemned in Mortalium Animos.*

It is that in doing so he is decribing precisely what he considerd "branches of the Christian Church" (Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, Calvinist-Presbyterian-Reformed ...) as the "rooms" that Dickson is using to illustrate his point.

And Dickson is using this same parallel for the relationship between "Evangelical Six-Day-Creationists and Evangelical Non-Six-Day-Creationists". Or in other words, for people otherwise sharing same confession but differring on whether Genesis is real History or Evolution Theory with connected Cosmology real Science. People who will cite St Thomas Aquinas* for saying the obvious sense of the Bible must not be doubted, in any passage, since if it is not de fide "ex parte revelati" it is so "ex parte revelantis". And on the other hand people who will cite as if most appropriate to precisely this debate St Augustine's famous words:*

Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics ...

I have indeed cited them myself, but only to imply they are being cited out of St Augustine's proper meaning, since believing Heliocentrism and Big Bang and Abiogenesis and Evolution "from microbes to microbiologists" and both language and morality arising by Evolution in senses specific to man, believing these and similar things are very much NOT to be knowing something about the universe.

If I had been saying "π is exactly 3 because scripture says so", I would indeed have been open to St Augustine's criticism. And Scripture doesn't.

As an aside, I may indeed have been counted as saying that, but by people hardly eager to understand either the person of a Geocentric Young Earth Creationist correctly, nor to do so with what he is (or to be precise, what I am) saying about classifying pi as an "irrational number". I have stated before, a number cannot be irrational, you cannot have π apples or square root of two oranges, and π and square root of two are not the kind of quantity we daily call number as in "how many", but they are rather ratios, "irrational" such, and not ratios dealing with how many but rather within realms dealt with by "how long, how wide, how far, how much, how strongly" and other continuous quantities.

This distinction already the ancients knew already by the time of Aristotle, and remaking terminology to make it appear as if it was recently discovered "that there are irrational numbers" (the fact being that π is still irrational as previously known** and the novelty being in calling it at all "a number") is one of the more disgraceful excuses for calling our own times more enlightened than Antiquity.

You can see here what kind of things that happens to me when speaking of π:

Assorted retorts from yahoo boards and elsewhere : ... on Honesty of Numberphile / Cambridge University, Mathematics

And you can see - to get back to the main issue - you can see here what kind of uncharitable patronising I have suffered by a fellow Catholic (if one likes) who is also a Darwinist, but even a Darwin:

DarwinCatholic : Did Augustine and Aquinas Believe In A Literal Interpretation of Genesis
http://darwincatholic.blogspot.com/2014/02/did-augustine-and-aquinas-believe-in.html

I do not feel at home with the bishops and priests responsible for his accessing to the Sacraments while entertaining such an aloof attitude towards fellow (?) Catholics who disagree with his reading of St Augustine or his application with that reading, and who insist that Evolution is not science, while Genesis is history.

How one relates to Jews today is, at least among Catholics about as divisive:

DarwinCatholic : History's Expiration Date
http://darwincatholic.blogspot.com/2014/03/historys-expiration-date.html

Among Protestants, many Old Earth Compromisers seem to be on good terms with Jews. Two in fact. Dickson cited above as "a lecturer in the Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney." And Rowland S. Ward:

Correspondence of Hans-Georg Lundahl : With Ward, on Flood, Rabbis, Joshua's Long Day
http://correspondentia-ioannis-georgii.blogspot.com/2014/03/with-ward-on-flood-rabbis-joshuas-long.html

Among Evangelical Young Earth Creationists, one is at least aware that Jewish Rabbis traditionally speaking already lack the Faith in Christ and in His instructing Saint Paul, and that Modern Rabbis are often compromisers in many ways often reminiscent of Dickson and Ward, who are their friends.

It seems to me that it is becoming easier for Catholics and Protestants to get along, certainly on the Modernist side, somewhat on the Traditional side, than for Modernists and Traditionals within each confession to get along with each other.

Of course, Pope Pius XII tried to spare Catholics this gulf by recommending a discussion limited to experts ... but instead his words were twisted into an excuse for a revolution among the faithful. People who had been using In Praeclara Summorum or Providentissimus Deus to revolutionise attitudes about Geocentrism as, if no longer compulsory, at least still preferrable, had helped prepare that other abuse of Encyclical Texts.

I am getting impatient. If someone will say my take is a normal Catholic take, I may take that. If someone will condemn my take as un-Catholic, publically, I can at least say that he has shown he flaunts Tradition, if that is the case. But if people go on and excuse me of being a heretic by saying I am ill, or arrested in development to acquiring an adult mind, or by flattering me and claiming my take is a more than normal take from a Catholic, one that can only be expected from a Saint (in other words other Catholics are not encouraged to read me but to observe whether I am a Saint or not), I take such duplicity and falseness as a sign of a very bad conscience.

** Ancient terminology for things like relationship between diametre and circumference of perfect circle or between diagonal and side of square was "irrational ratio". Ratio because it was a relationship of size to size, and irrational because it was not a "number to number ratio" like 3:2. I have proposed this could be amended to "non-numeric ratio", since the sizes involved in such ratios are not numbers. In the same vein e is not a number, but some kind of ratio and if anyone takes (1 - 0.1)10 as a basis for anything, including calculation of logarithm tables, one may add that 1 - 0.1 is really a fancy way of writing 1:1 - 1:10. Which are ratios, not numbers.

Being Homeless Is Not A Crime
By Father Nathan Monk
http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/florida-ordinance-makes-illegal-homeless-use-blankets

The argument that there are shelters open and that they should just go there, showed exactly why the mayor shouldn’t be making policy about things which he doesn’t understand. Not only are there not enough shelter beds for everyone within the city limits, there is not even a shelter within the city limits for them to go to. If someone was to seek shelter, they would have to go into the county and have a valid ID. Not to mention that many folks don’t qualify for shelters for other reasons and many won’t patronize them because they are veterans who suffer from PTSD.

Why did it neither occur to Pensacola mayor nor to his Critic, the Orthodox Priest, that the mayor's argument about homeless shelters was advcating Communism?

Carrying some camping equipment and some blankets around so you can sleep at night (if you find a bench or some covered porch not too close to the noises of the city) is what is known as an individual initiative. Sometimes also known as private initiative.

Making a shelter so that homeless can go there is what you call a collective initiative.

Outlawing an individual initiative in favour of only the collective one in the same area, is usually referred to as Communism. So, the ordinance is a Communist ordinance and the Pensacola citizens should be shocked at being ruled by a Communist Government.

That this did not occur to the mayor might be because he is ... I will not say "of Jewish or Jewfriendly background" because the background does not really determine a man nor excuse all of his faults, but simply too soaked in such an Assyrian background. If he does not repent, he can count on seeing Haman in Hell. The community which under Kings of Davidic line and under Daniel stood off from Assyrian and Babylonian evils has since then become a bit soaked in them, one of them being the tendency to be a Communist whenever that is to one's advantage and an Anticommunist whenever it is one's own private or individual initiative which is targetted. So too the mayor (whether of Jewish or just Jew friendly community, I do not know which) can be an ardent Anticommunist when he wants to rally support from exiled Cubans, but as ardent a Communist when he wants to forbid what the Soviet Union described as Antisocial Behaviour.

But the Orthodox priest might have known a bit better?

In other respects, of course, I support the fine writing* in favour of the homeless and of their rights to remain individuals rather than be herded into a collective (whether they are received into it or not).

First a child is withdrawn from her mother's care ...

... foster home or adoptive home, I do not know which.* Then - or perhaps even before withdrawal of parental rights and leading to it - she gets a diagnosis which may not help herself to deal better with life but which certainly stamps both herself and her mother.

Then the guys who do this sue the mother.

OK, what if she came back to her mother and doctors stopped meddling with her life and charging anyone (mother or municipal council) even a cent for what they are supposed to be doing "for" the benefit of the child?

It has been said before and needs saying again, foster homes are a vile branch of industry, it is already making loads of money along with medical and psychological and similar branches and of course the social workers involved in taking away parental rights.

I had a sister (ma has by now forbidden me to talk to her, that is how estranged she has become to our values) who was poisoned, not because ma choose to drink alcohol, but because a criminal shrink choose to continue medicating ma during same pregnancy. AND on top of that same shrink decided to tell social workers ma was not in a state to take care of her daughter.

My sister's life has been ruined, not by ma's decision, but by decisions of such vile professionals. Now, they need to be stopped.

And a lawyer claiming to represent a six year old child against her own mother needs to be stopped as well.

Si Dieu me sera propice, ça changera bientôt. J'espère.
