Haaretz on Religion World Wide

Haaretz : Israel Among the Least Religious Countries in the World

Less than one-third of Israelis say they are religious, which is well below the norm in western Europe. It is however about equal with the level of religiosity in England and Scandinavia, the poll found, which are among the least religious areas in the world.

In other words, the Holy Land is right now not the best place to live a holy life. Perhaps even less if you are Catholic rather than Jewish, and perhaps even less than that if on top of being Catholic, you are as Jewish by your heritage as the both Torquemadas or as Greater St. Theresa or as Neve Campbell.

Around the globe, 63 percent of people polled say they are religious. Overall, the young tend to be the most religious (albeit by a narrow margin) – as are the least educated and the poorest, the poll found. Sixty-six percent of the world's people under 34 are religious, compared with 60 percent of others.

In other words, aging societies are not that either. Good to live a holy life in.

Only six percent of people with low incomes describe themselves as convinced atheists worldwide, compared with one-quarter of those with high incomes.

In Abrahamic religions, the ones most targetted by atheists, you believe the poor are likely to have a good standing with God.

Housewives are most likely to be religious, the Independent reported, followed by retirees and students.

Housewives and young have a connection - the more a wife stays in the house, the more young she is likely to produce.

Retirees and students surprise me, though ... students are of course young. Where I am from, students are supposed to be likely to be atheists ... back when I studied, last time over a little less than 19 years ago./HGL
